Itinerary

Day 1: Hotel - Chacayar - Aguas Claras Camp

First of all, we’ll pick you up at your hotel, drive to Chacayar and start a 3-hour walk to Baños Azules. There, we’ll have our first break and continue our hike across plateaus and streams until we reach Aguas Claras Camp, where we’ll set up our camp.

Day 2: Aguas Claras Camp - La Vega de los Flojos

We’ll start our second day very early in the morning with a good breakfast and talking about our day. Our trip will begin crossing pastures that will lead us to Baños del Tupungato, a natural thermal pool where we can contemplate great views of the surrounding mountains. After a while, we’ll catch an impressive sight of Tupungato. We’ll continue our walk and, after a difficult section, we’ll reach La Vega de los Flojos (3,318 meters), our second camp.

Day 3: La Vega de los Flojos - Los Españoles

Our third day will start with a beautiful view of the sunrise and the surroundings while we share a copious breakfast. We’ll go through an area called ‘the valley of stones’ and start the ascent to a large valley with many streams. Our ascent will continue in the slopes of the volcano and, after 2 hours, we’ll reach the Base Camp ‘Los Españoles’, at 4,420 meters of altitude.

Day 4: Acclimatization Day

Day 5: Los Españoles - El Hito - Los Españoles

We’ll carry the equipment and food for three days to the El Hito Camp (4,790 meters). The trail crosses a frozen section and reaches a flat area where we’ll leave our things.

Day 6: Los Españoles - El Hito

We’ll set up our camp in El Hito.

Day 7: Acclimatization Day

Day 8: El Hito - Camp 5200

We’ll depart in the morning to our last camp and prepare for the following day.

Day 9: Summit Day

On the summit day, we’ll wake up early in the morning and get ready for the ascent. We’ll cross a rocky section and face a challenging climb for 3 hours until we reach an altitude of 5,800 meters. With the light of the sun, we’ll get to see the dazzling surroundings and start our way into the crater. Then, we’ll climb a rocky section, cross a pass and continue along the edge to the top. After reaching our goal, we’ll descend to the camp to celebrate and relax.

Day 10: Camp 5200 - Vega de los Flojos

Day 11: Vega de los Flojos - Baños Azules

Day 12: Baños Azules - Chacayar - Santiago

Day 13 to 14: Extra days in case of bad weather

Climbing with guide Guillaume was absolutely a highlight of my 2-week Europe vacation. Originally, we were planning on climbing in the Calanques, but the park was closed due to wind and fire danger. Guillaume chose another amazing location (Pic de Bretagne) based on my climbing abilities and preferences and kindly offered train station pick-up and hotel drop off, which I appreciated very much. The multi-pitch route we did was not only fun but also the right amount of challenge, which I thoroughly enjoyed. The communication from the team (Gauthier) was prompt and clear—highly recommend!

Luis Silva was a great climbing guide and belayer! He taught me how to do moves that were difficult and encouraged me to try routes that were challenging for me! Because of his encouragement, I managed to complete these routes! I really enjoyed the climbs and completed 8 routes in the Sesimbra/Azoia area. The weather was perfect, no direct sun and cool enough to enjoy the climbs. Explore-Share made booking an outdoor climbing experience in Lisbon extremely easy. Luis, our guide, was fantastic, and the platform’s organization was flawless.

Patrick was a great guide. He took us on an intermediate Via Ferrata at Passo Sella. Renato was quick to respond with any outreach on the Explore-Share platform. The booking process was straightforward, and once Patrick was confirmed, all went well. It was a wonderful experience, and I’d highly recommend the platform.
