Description

During this fantastic 3-day adventure, we will explore the Patagonian glaciers at the foot of Fitz Roy with a special view and a more technical (not classical) approach.

This is a great 3-day mountaineering adventure with a glacial traverse in the heart of Patagonia. We will begin the trek 20km outside of El Chalten, ascending to our campsite at Piedra Negra. This is a truly special spot with an incredible panoramic view that includes the towering granite walls of Guillaumet, Mermoz, and Fitz Roy. The next day, a tough ascent over technical terrain takes us to the Guillaumet Pass, where we will celebrate with incredible views of the surrounding glaciers before descending to our campsite. Technical equipment (crampons, ice axes, etc) is included. The third way we descend all the way back to El Chalten. For more details, please refer to the day-by-day itinerary outline below.

Due to the nature of the terrain, some previous experience with technical glacier trekking gear, such as crampons and ropes, is necessary. A high level of physical fitness is also necessary, as the intensity of this trek ranges is medium-high.

Price details

Minimum group of 2 people. Price includes: Professional mountain guiding services, tents to be shared between 23 people, safety equipment (ropes, ice axes, ice screws, etc), technical equipment (crampons, snowshoes, harnesses), all meals (breakfast, lunch, dinner, and snacks), cooking equipment, first aid, navigation equipment, satellite communication equipment, transfer to start of trip.

Itinerary

Day 1: Piedra Negra Campsite

Depart El Chalten by vehicle to the trailhead at the Electrico River Bridge, 20km outside of the town.

The path is relatively easy as it takes us through forest to Piedra de Fraile refuge. From there, the path grows steeper. We stop at Piedra Negra campsite for the night, where we will enjoy great panoramic views all the way to Fitz Roy.

Elevation gain: 950m

Time: 6-7 hours

Intensity: Medium to high

Day 2: Superior Pass

Our ascent continues over snow and loose rocks before we scramble over another rocky section. We arrive at Guillaumet Pass, where we enjoy breathtaking views of the glacier. We then must traverse another glacier before dropping into our campsite at Superior Pass.

Elevation gain/loss: +450m/-1,350m

Time: 8-10 hours

Day 3: Return to El Chalten

Today we trek back to El Chalten. We traverse the glacier De los Tres, pass a lagoon, and descend through forest before we reach town.

Elevation loss: -850m

Time: 7-8 hours

Mountain Guide

I graduated in Buenos Aires as Universitary proffesional in tourism and as a Mountain Guide in Mendoza province. I started working in adventure activities, horseback riding and mountain ascents. Then i moved to Patagonia that was my dream place for living and thanks to this profession it became in my place for working and personal development.

After several years of experience working in these mountains and numerous trips around the world looking for adventures and experience, I managed to unite both professions in an objective, so Serac Expeditions arose. In the last 15 years working with Serac, I have organized trips for thousands of people and personally guided hundreds of them in diverse and remote places in Patagonia, Chile, Peru and Bolivia.

Today my passion is not only guiding but also organizing special and personalized trips for people who enjoy exploring in nature and at the same time push their limits. My ideal is to provide a safe trip, spend a good time togheter with my clients and be flexible to provide a great experience and memories.
