Description

I am happy to invite you to climb the famous Lanin volcano**, in the province of Neuquén.**

With its 3776 meters above sea level the Lanin Volcano is the highest mountain in the area. In addition to that, it stands out because it’s almost twice as high as the ones around it.

The Lanin Volcano is one of those mountains that as soon as you see it, you want to climb it. Its ascent is really exciting with a great geometric shape and clean cut lines. Thanks to its height it is also visible even from a great distance. It’s definitely an eye catcher and a very tempting summit to climb.

Please keep in mind that it will be a physically and technically demanding climb. The tough conditions of the Patagonian environment make the ascent hard.

The number of climbers willing to reach the Lanin Volcano grows every year. Most ascents are during the summer season, from November till March. However, in late winter and early spring (specially October) the ascent can be also done with skis. That makes much easier and fun the way down!

I have no doubt that climbing this volcano is an experience that you won’t forget easily. Please get in touch with me and let’s conquer such a summit!

Itinerary

Day 0: The day before

We will meet up the day before to check our equipment and to wrap up details. You can also rent your equipment in the city.

Day 1: Volcano base - Mountain Hut

We will leave early (6 or 7 AM). We will drive to the base of the volcano for 1,5 hours. Once at the foot of the mountain (1100 m), we’ll register and finish packing our backpacks before starting to climb. Around 9 am we’ll be walking towards the hut. For the first hour we’ll walk through the woods and then over volcanic ground with medium-to-steep slopes. After a 4-hour hike we’ll first arrive at a 2300-meter-high mountain refuge and then at the second one at 2600 meters, where we’ll spend the night.

Day 2: Summit day!

We’ll wake up really early, at about 2 am for a hot breakfast. We’ll be leaving at around 3 am. The hike to the peak is slow but steady (6 or 7 hours). We’ll walk over snow covered grounds with no signed paths. We should also use crampons and hiking poles. Once we are at 3000 meters in a large plateau, we’ll be able to see the most breathtaking sunrise. From this point on, the climb becomes tougher, while we travel through what is known as “the trough”, a steadily steep slope. Once the trough is behind us we’ll only be an hour away from the top. After a 20-minute break at the summit, we’ll begin the descent which is also quite hard.

Mountain Guide

AAGM and aspiring IFMGA guide from Argentina.

Since a very young age I felt attracted by the mountains, so I started climbing and spending time there. That's how mountaineering and climbing became not just an activity, but a lifestyle for me.

This lifestyle allowed me to discover many places, and get to know beautiful mountains. And I also realized that I could earn my living with this passion, so I became a guide,

Nowadays I have the big pleasure of working in the place I like really love: the mountains.

I worked a couple of seasons guiding in El Chaltén, and nowadays focus mainly in North Patagonia and Mendoza regions.

Climbing with guide Guillaume was absolutely a highlight of my 2-week Europe vacation. Originally, we were planning on climbing in the Calanques, but the park was closed due to wind and fire danger. Guillaume chose another amazing location (Pic de Bretagne) based on my climbing abilities and preferences and kindly offered train station pick-up and hotel drop off, which I appreciated very much. The multi-pitch route we did was not only fun but also the right amount of challenge, which I thoroughly enjoyed. The communication from the team (Gauthier) was prompt and clear—highly recommend!

Luis Silva was a great climbing guide and belayer! He taught me how to do moves that were difficult and encouraged me to try routes that were challenging for me! Because of his encouragement, I managed to complete these routes! I really enjoyed the climbs and completed 8 routes in the Sesimbra/Azoia area. The weather was perfect, no direct sun and cool enough to enjoy the climbs. Explore-Share made booking an outdoor climbing experience in Lisbon extremely easy. Luis, our guide, was fantastic, and the platform’s organization was flawless.

Patrick was a great guide. He took us on an intermediate Via Ferrata at Passo Sella. Renato was quick to respond with any outreach on the Explore-Share platform. The booking process was straightforward, and once Patrick was confirmed, all went well. It was a wonderful experience, and I’d highly recommend the platform.
