Description

Would you like to climb an awesome peak in the Andes? Then come to Mendoza for this guided ascent to Cerro San Bernardo, in the Cordon del Plata range!

Cordon del Plata is a sub-range of the Andes in the Province of Mendoza, Argentina. Cerro San Bernardo (4,150m) is one of its imposing peaks. Located about 80 km from Mendoza City, this colorful mountain receives thousands of mountaineers every year.

This 3-day trip is ideal both for those who want to start mountaineering and for those who want to explore the alpine region of Mendoza. We will cross the stunning Cordon del Plata Provincial Park, a protected area where many guanacos and condors live. Furthermore, we will sleep in tents surrounded by an awesome landscape.

From the top of San Bernardo, we will enjoy breathtaking views of beautiful mountains such as El Rincon, Vallecitos, Plata, Franke, Lomas Amarillas, Stepanek and Adolfo Calle!

Keep in mind that this adventure does not require special mountaineering skills. However, you should have a good fitness level as we will head up a steep and rocky slope. For more information, you can check the itinerary below!

Itinerary

Day 1: Mendoza - Vallecitos - Veguitas

Meeting in Mendoza and transfer to Vallecitos (2,900m). Hike towards Veguitas (3,200m), where we will set our camp.

Day 2: Summit day

After breakfast we will start climbing Cerro San Bernardo. The ascent will take us 5 or 6 hours. We’ll have lunch at the summit and get back to our camp.

Day 3: End of the adventure

Return to Mendoza City.

Luis Silva was a great climbing guide and belayer! He taught me how to do moves that were difficult and encouraged me to try routes that were challenging for me!
