Join me on this Cerro Mercedario expedition in 12 days to immerse yourself in one of the most beautiful mountains in Argentina.
In the Southwestern face of the province of San Juan, in Argentina, you will find the awesome Cerro Mercedario. It is one of the five high peaks of a powerful mountain range known as “Cordón de la Ramada”, the biggest glacier valley of the region with summits that reach to 6000 meters of height. And I’ll happily guide you up to its amazing summit.
It will be an unforgeable 12-day mountaineering experience across this valley that will show you the best secrets inside The Ramada Range: lakes, glaciers, waterfalls and trek activities.
And as always I take special attention to your acclimatization progress. So We’ll go at your pace and leave some extra days in case of bad weather or of you need to rest some more.
So send me a request if you are interested in this Cerro Mercedario expedition in 12 days, and get ready to discover a remote and pristine mountain in the Ramada range. You won’t regret it!
And if you are looking for another great adventure in San Juan, please also check my Summit in the Ramada Range, San Juan.
We get together in the morning in San Juan, where we check the equipment and solve last minute details for the expedition. Transfer from the airport to the hotel.
A transfer will take us from San Juan to a small Andean town called Barreal. We will get to Refuge Laguna Blanca, at 3100 meters of height.
Hike to Laguna Blanca with the help of our porters. It is a beautiful lagoon at 3200 meters. Then we will camp and go back to Refuge Laguna Blanca.
We will walk for about 3 hours to our next point: Cuesta Blanca at 4200 meters.
Together with our porters, we will ascend to Pirca de Indios, a glaciar zone at 5150 meters. After that, we will go back to Cuesta Blanca.
We’ll hike to camp 2, Pirca de Indios, in order to continue with the ascent.
We’ll move to the camp 3, La Ollada, at 5700 meters.
We will finally get to the summit of the marvelous Cerro Mercedario at 6720 meters! After celebrating our goal and taking some pictures, we’ll return to La Ollada.
Back up days in case of any problem that might alter the described program, or if we need to wait for good weather conditions or get a better acclimatization.
We’ll hike down to Laguna Blanca and back to Barreal or San Juan city.

Mountain Leader
I am an EPGAMT guide from San Juan, Argentina.
I am a fanatic of high mountains ice climbing and trad and sport rock climbing, and I know the Argentinean Andes because I've been climbing and guiding since 2001.
I worked mostly in the Central Andes (Aconcagua, Mercedario, all the summits in Ramada Range and Ansilta Range, Vallecitos Range), but also know and work in the Argentinean North West Atacama Region (Pissis, Bonete Chico, Llullaillaco, Antofalla, Nevado de Cachi etc), and in Patagonia, where I climbed the main needles and mountains, such as Cerro Torre and Fitz Roy Massif (including some new routes also in the main summits in the area).
I am a lover of technical ascent, rocky or icy, with a lot of experience guiding and climbing, so you can decide whatever mountain and route you would like to climb, from easy walking treks, rapps, and rockclimbing tours around San Juan City (where I live), to Ice climbing and rock climbing routes in all the Argentinean Andean including winter ascent to the highest Argentinean Mountains!!!
I have also climbed around Spain, Marruecos, Peru, Bolivia, Brasil and Chile.

Climbing with guide Guillaume was absolutely a highlight of my 2-week Europe vacation. Originally, we were planning on climbing in the Calanques, but the park was closed due to wind and fire danger. Guillaume chose another amazing location (Pic de Bretagne) based on my climbing abilities and preferences and kindly offered train station pick-up and hotel drop off, which I appreciated very much. The multi-pitch route we did was not only fun but also the right amount of challenge, which I thoroughly enjoyed. The communication from the team (Gauthier) was prompt and clear—highly recommend!

Luis Silva was a great climbing guide and belayer! He taught me how to do moves that were difficult and encouraged me to try routes that were challenging for me! Because of his encouragement, I managed to complete these routes! I really enjoyed the climbs and completed 8 routes in the Sesimbra/Azoia area. The weather was perfect, no direct sun and cool enough to enjoy the climbs. Explore-Share made booking an outdoor climbing experience in Lisbon extremely easy. Luis, our guide, was fantastic, and the platform’s organization was flawless.

We had Léo as a guide for our day climb in Fonty. We were blessed with a knowledgeable, warm, and instructive guide. Communication with Léo and Ivan was smooth and swift. Explore-Share was excellent in arranging everything for our day climb. The communication was quick, and the platform was easy to use, making our adventure stress-free.

Patrick was a great guide. He took us on an intermediate Via Ferrata at Passo Sella. Renato was quick to respond with any outreach on the Explore-Share platform. The booking process was straightforward, and once Patrick was confirmed, all went well. It was a wonderful experience, and I’d highly recommend the platform.
