Description

I  invite you on a full day ascent to Cerro Madsen at 1.806 meters above sea level.

The ascent to Cerro Madsen is a perfect challenge for beginners and those who want to climb to the top of a mountain in Patagonia and enjoy one of the most stunning views of the continent.

The trip starts early in the morning in El Chaltén from where we’ll drive to the Hostería El Pilar, our trail-head. From there, we will walk to the Fitz Roy Campsite and after that, we will continue up to Laguna de Los Tres. Then, we will finally reach the eastern ridge of Cerro Madsen.

Depending on weather conditions and the season of the year, we may find some snow patches. In that case, we’ll need to use crampons, ropes, and an ice axe. The reward will be one of the most imposing views of Mount Fitz Roy and Piedras Blancas Glacier. We will then descend the same way and finally drive back to El Chaltén.

Although it’s not mandatory to have previous experience you will need a good physical shape. Take into account it will be a very long day with a total trekking time of 12-14 hours.

Mountain Guide

Certified UIAGM-IFMGA Mountain Guide from Argentina.

I live in El Chaltén since 1998. I'm originally from Bariloche and I started with mountain activities when I was 15 years old. I've done climbing and ascents in many mountains of Patagonia, Perú, Bolivia, United States and Europe; such as Fitz Roy, Cerro Torre, Alpamayo, El Capitán, Mont Blanc and Aconcagua among others. I'm also a Ski Instructor and I am passionate for backcountry ski.

I speak fluent English, Italian and French and have been leading trips and expeditions for more than 20 years. I work together with a group of guides, so if I'm not available for the trip you request, one of my colleagues will guide you!
