Description

The Dolomites are a breathtaking mountain range in northwestern Italy that every mountain lover should visit…many times! Would you come with me for a 1-week trip?

I've created a 7-day itinerary visiting some of the best spots in these Italian peaks and climbing many via ferratas.

We'll meet at the town of Cortina d'Ampezzo. I'll show you the basic via ferrata skills and how to use the equipment to climb safely.

Our first destinations will be Torre di Toblin (2617 m) and Monte Paterno (2744 m). You'll enjoy some great views along the way, specially of the Tre Cime di Lavaredo, the most iconic peaks in the Dolomites.

The following day, we'll take two via ferratas that will lead us to the summit of Cima di Mezzo (3154 m). Besides, we'll cross an amazing cable bridge that you may remind from the movie Cliffhanger!

Day 4 awaits us with a tough but beautiful ferrata to the top of Tofana di Rozes (3225 m).

Our path will go through ruins from World War I, until one of the most scenic summits in the Dolomites.

Our next challenge? Climbing the 600 m of Strobel ferrata, on the west face of Punta Fiammes (2240 m). One of the highlights of this via ferrata is that it has a great variety of terrains and ends with a stunning view of Cortina.

Last but not least, we'll climb Punta Anna (2731 m) and Tofana di Mezzo (3244 m) by taking two incredible via ferratas. Exhausting but totally worth it!

Ready for this true adventure in the Dolomite mountains? Please, get in touch so we can start planning this trip together! The trip requires minimum 4 people to run. Please get in touch with me to find out if we have a group or if you're interested in a private guide, for which the price will be different.

Besides, if you are looking for exciting adventures in other locations, don't miss this 1-week via ferrata & rock climbing trip in Paklenica, Croatia and this via ferrata trip in Logarska Valley, Slovenia.

Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival in Cortina d'Ampezzo

We’ll meet in the afternoon in Cortina at the pleasant B&B. After dinner, I’ll show you the basics of via ferrata and the equipment you will use to ensure safety. Do take a hike in Cortina, but go to bed early, because Day 2 is an early wake-up.

Day 2: Innerkofler and Forcelle, Monte Paterno (2744 m) , Torre di Toblin (2617 m)

After breakfast, we’ll travel by car and take a trip to Auronzo Hut (2320 m). We’ll see the southern faces of the Tre Cime.

The start of the ferrata is reached via the Lavaredo pass, leading to Monte Paterno. We’ll go all the way to Torre di Toblin. There, we’ll get the best views of Tre Cime from this spot. The descent around the Holy Trinity will provide great views.

Day 3: Ivano Dubona Via Ferrata, Marino Bianchi Ferrata, Cima di Mezzo (3154 m)

On our second Dolomite via ferrata, we will cross the most famous spot of the Dolomites – the cable-bridge from the Cliffhanger movie.

We’ll start the tour at 2215 meters where you use a chairlift and take a ride to the Lorenzi hut.

Then, we’ll ascend to 2932 meters in just under 20 minutes with the cable car, from where Marino Bianchi ferrata will take us to the Cime di Mezzo summit.

We’ll take the same route back to the refuge (Lorenzi) from the summit. Then, we’ll take a different route to reach the cable bridge.

Day 4: Giovanni Lipella Via Ferrata, Tofana di Rozes (3225 m)

We are going on one of the most exhilarating and scenic ferratas. From the Dibona refuge, a trail will take us to the entrance of a cave, once used as a shelter for Austro-Hungarian and Italian soldiers in WWI. The path in the cave makes a 150 meter ascent.

We’ll make our way through ruins of WWI as we go towards one of the highest and most stunning summits of the Dolomites. It’s a tough climb here, but it will be worth the effort.

Day 5: Albino Michielli Strobel Via Ferrata - Punta Fiammes (2240m)

Be ready for a 600 meter climb today! We’ll ascend the Strobel ferrata, which is a popular one in the Cortina area.

The ferrata starts on a wide ledge, where you put on your harness and via ferrata set. This ferrata is a fine mixture of all kinds of terrain: ridges, vertical walls, crags. You will get a great view of Cortina from the top. The way down follows an easy trail.

Day 6: Giuseppe Olivieri Via Ferrata- Punta Anna (2731m), Tofana di Mezzo (3244m)

I’ve saved the best and biggest for the last. What makes the Punta Anna climb fantastic is the majestic view of the south wall of Tofana di Roses. If weather and your stamina permit, we’ll ascend to the top of Tofana di Mezzo (3244 m) by using the Gianni Aglio ferrata. A cable car will take us back to the valley after summiting.

Mountain Guide

I am a Slovenian IFMGA mountain guide with the ZGVS.
It was when I was 12 years old that I first climbed a mountain myself and by the age of 15 I had started rock climbing.
Since then, my ascents count up to around 1000, starting from Mont Blanc in the seventies and Triglav north face to Cho Oyu, and all over South America including 18 of the 6000m+ peaks including a first ascent on south face of Aconcagua.

I have climbed and travelled all over the world, Shivlinga, K2, Mt Everest, Manaslu, Shishi Panama, El Cap and sport climbing in Kalymnos and Cuba.

Skiing powder in great conditions and rock climbing under the sun are my motto!

Contact me if you'd like to have fun safely in the mountains with me! If I am unavailable then my trusted friend guides, Franc and Milan, can take care of you!

Climbing with guide Guillaume was absolutely a highlight of my 2-week Europe vacation. Originally, we were planning on climbing in the Calanques, but the park was closed due to wind and fire danger. Guillaume chose another amazing location (Pic de Bretagne) based on my climbing abilities and preferences and kindly offered train station pick-up and hotel drop off, which I appreciated very much. The multi-pitch route we did was not only fun but also the right amount of challenge, which I thoroughly enjoyed. The communication from the team (Gauthier) was prompt and clear—highly recommend!

Luis Silva was a great climbing guide and belayer! He taught me how to do moves that were difficult and encouraged me to try routes that were challenging for me! Because of his encouragement, I managed to complete these routes! I really enjoyed the climbs and completed 8 routes in the Sesimbra/Azoia area. The weather was perfect, no direct sun and cool enough to enjoy the climbs. Explore-Share made booking an outdoor climbing experience in Lisbon extremely easy. Luis, our guide, was fantastic, and the platform’s organization was flawless.

Patrick was a great guide. He took us on an intermediate Via Ferrata at Passo Sella. Renato was quick to respond with any outreach on the Explore-Share platform. The booking process was straightforward, and once Patrick was confirmed, all went well. It was a wonderful experience, and I’d highly recommend the platform.
