Description

Via ferrata routes are quite popular in Slovenia. On this trip, I propose to take you to via ferrata Silva-Korena in Mt Krn.

Mount Krn (2244 m) is a peak of the Julian Alps, in the northwest of the country.

The starting point of this trip will be the little and scenic town of Kobarid. Here, we can visit the First World War museum and learn about the historic heritage of this region.

From there, we'll continue towards Drežnica village, that lies on a small plateau at the foot of Mt Krn. At this point, we'll start scrambling. We'll climb on a route with very nice views and continue over protected sections towards the top. This is a hard via ferrata route, that goes over many vertical sections of the ridge.

At the end of the route, there's a mountain hut, only 10 minutes away from the summit of Mt Krn.

After this, we can continue our descent over the little valley of Luznica, visit the lake of Lovers, and descent back to Drežnica. Besides, we can also visit other smaller peaks in the region or visit the Pyramid monument at one of the remote white gravel saddles to the memory of the WWI soldiers of Austrian monarchy.

You'll enjoy some stunning views towards Kobarid and Soča valley during the ascent. From the summit you'll see the large Krn lake, Lepena Valley, Trenta and Mt Triglav.

We'll take between 8-12 hours to complete this climbing trip.

Mountain Guide

I’m an IFMGA Mountain Guide and an Alpine Instructor from Slovenia.

At the back of the house where I grew up, past a slope, a higher hill and some rocks, you could see Mount Triglav rising towards the blue sky.

Mountains were a part of my backyard and I started practicing alpinism when I was a schoolboy. At that time, I enrolled for a sport climbing school and I became an alpine instructor in 1995.

Between 1995 and 1997, I’ve been a member of the Sub-commission on Extreme Alpinism for the Slovene Alpine Society. Some years later, I was Chief of the Commission for Alpinism.

As a member of the alpine team, I went on several expeditions in North and South America, the Himalaya, the Tian Shan and the Kookshall-Too mountain range.

I climbed more than 700 routes in Slovenia, Italy, Switzerland and France. Long winter climbs and ridges are always among my favorites.

I made some first winter ascents: on two routes on the north wall of Ribezni, Možnica (700m, V+, 5, UIAA VI/A1) and in Jof di Montasio / Poliški Špik, Grapa (700m, UIAA 4, ascent and complete ridge traverse). Other memorable climbs were a winter traverse of 4000 m peaks in Mont Blanc (4807 m) and the Slovenian Peuterey ridge traverse, among many others.

After 6 years of training, I obtained my IFMGA certification in 2010.

I organize many guided ski touring, rock climbing and ice climbing trips in Slovenia, especially in the surroundings of Mt. Triglav and the whole Soča valley.

Climbing with guide Guillaume was absolutely a highlight of my 2-week Europe vacation. Originally, we were planning on climbing in the Calanques, but the park was closed due to wind and fire danger. Guillaume chose another amazing location (Pic de Bretagne) based on my climbing abilities and preferences and kindly offered train station pick-up and hotel drop off, which I appreciated very much. The multi-pitch route we did was not only fun but also the right amount of challenge, which I thoroughly enjoyed. The communication from the team (Gauthier) was prompt and clear—highly recommend!

Luis Silva was a great climbing guide and belayer! He taught me how to do moves that were difficult and encouraged me to try routes that were challenging for me! Because of his encouragement, I managed to complete these routes! I really enjoyed the climbs and completed 8 routes in the Sesimbra/Azoia area. The weather was perfect, no direct sun and cool enough to enjoy the climbs. Explore-Share made booking an outdoor climbing experience in Lisbon extremely easy. Luis, our guide, was fantastic, and the platform’s organization was flawless.

Patrick was a great guide. He took us on an intermediate Via Ferrata at Passo Sella. Renato was quick to respond with any outreach on the Explore-Share platform. The booking process was straightforward, and once Patrick was confirmed, all went well. It was a wonderful experience, and I’d highly recommend the platform.
