Vatnajökull Glacier 9-Day Group Crossing, Iceland

If you are looking for a truly one-of-a-kind skiing experience, this Vatnajökull Group Glacier Crossing in Iceland is a great option! Over 9 days, we will cross Europe‘s largest glacier. Join us for an unforgettable tour.

This is a cross-country group ski tour using pulka/sleds program. To begin the tour, we will meet you the day before our departure to go over the details for our itinerary and equipment. Next morning, we will pick you up at your accommodation in Reykjavik. Later, we will transfer to the snow line in the glacier on super-jeep transportation.

The Vatnajökull – or Vatnajokull – Glacier has several active volcanoes. The Grímsvötn volcano, for example, is one of the key highlights of the itinerary. Other key points on the tour are:

• Iceland's highest peak, Hvannadalshnúkur (2,110 m), in Öræfajökull

• The spectacular Esjufjöll mountains towards the east of the glacier

• The descent down the Breiðamerkurjökull glacier, which feeds the well-known Jökulsárlón glacier lagoon

When the program ends, we will take you back to your accommodation in Reykjavik.

The average walking time per day is between 7 and 9 hours. The total distance we will cover is between 100 and 130 km (2790 – 6923 ft). The maximum ascent will be of 750 m (2,460 ft).

On this tour, one of our guides will take a maximum of 6 guests. If there are more guests interested, a second guide can join us, for up to a total of 12 guests.

Weather conditions in this location are very similar to those in the arctic. The terrain and weather are demanding, even in spring. This is why the level of difficulty for this tour if from Demanding to Strenuous.
