Are you ready to live a unique expedition and climb the Urus, Ishinca and Tocllaraju summits in just one week? So, keep reading!

Welcome to a really exciting mountaineering expedition along the Ishincha Valley. As you may know, this valley offers a unique landscape since it hosts three giant peaks of more than 5000 meters high.

The Urus, Ishinca and Tocllaraju mountains are the main stars of this region. And what's more interesting is that you will reach their summits in only one week! Yes, I am happy to invite you to challenge yourself and climb the Urus, Ishinca and Tocllaraju peaks.

From a base camp in the valley of Ishinca, we will start the ascents to those three mountains. The Ishinca (5550m) and Urus (5495m) do not involve a technical climb. In fact, they are pleasant ascensions that work perfectly as an acclimatization before the main goal: the Tocllaraju.

The Nevado Tocllaraju (6035m) has some stretches of technical and steep climbing. That is why it is recommended that you have some previous experience in ice climbing. In addition, it is also important that you know how to use crampons and piolets and how to descend by abseiling.

And if you want to spend more acclimatization days in the area, I can offer you my 12-day program. It consists in climbing these 3 peaks but with a prior hiking preparation across the Santa Cruz Trek.

Anyway, the best season to come to the Cordillera Blanca is from May till September. I can lead a group of 3 guests and if you are more than 4, a mountain guide assistant will join us.

Itinerary

Day 1: Huaraz – Pashpa – Base Camp Ishinca

Private transfer to Pashpa, our trail head at 3670 meters of altitude. Here we will meet the donkey drivers and start hiking along the Ishinca Valley. Once inside the National Park we will have lunch. Then, we will continue walking until we arrive the Ishinca base camp. Finally, we will check our climbing equipment for the next day and spend the night in the campsite.

Day 2: Base Camp – Summit to Urus

We will start our ascent at around 4:00 AM after breakfast. After 2 hours we’ll be in the glacier, where we will start climbing up for other 3 hours to finally get the summit at 5497 meters. Once up there you can take some photos and enjoy the nice view. Then, we must descend for 1:30 hour to the Moraine camp and then to the Base Camp again, where we’ll rest and sleep.

Day 3: Base Camp – Ishinca summit – Base Camp

We will wake up early at 03:00 AM. After 2:30 hours we’ll be arriving to the glacier. Here, we must put our climbing gear on and start to climb to the summit for about 3 more hours. Once in the summit we will enjoy the nice view for some minutes and then start to descend for 2 hours to the Moraine camp. From there, we’ll continue to the Base Camp, arriving at around 18:30 PM. Overnight camping in the Base Camp.

Day 4: Base Camp - Rest day

This day you will have a free day to walk, rest and prepare your equipment for the next objective: the Nevado Tocllaraju.

Day 5: Base Camp – Camp 1 (5200 m)

Today we must reach the Camp 1. Leaving the Base Camp at 10 AM we’ll first get to the glacier, where we must use our climbing gear to continue the ascent to the Camp 1. Overnight camp over the glacier at 5200 meters of altitude.

Day 6: Camp 1 – Tocllaraju summit – Base Camp

After breakfast at 3 AM we will start the climb up to the Tocllaraju summit for about 5 hours. Once at the top you will enjoy the most splendid views of different surrounding peaks like the Huascaran, Santa Cruz and Ranrapalca. Finally, we will return to the Camp 1, pick up our equipment and continue going down to the Base Camp, where we’ll arrive by 4 PM.

Day 7: Base Camp – Pashpa – Huaraz

We must walk downhill to Pashpa for 3 hours, before registering in the Huascaran National Park entrance. Once in Pashpa our private transfer will be waiting to take us back Huaraz. From here another transfer will take you to your hotel. Lunch on the way and end of the program.

I was born and raised in the foothills of the Andes, spending summers hiking and climbing the valley and the peaks near of Huaraz.

Genius of the mountain adventure. From childhood I was a lover of adrenaline, after of the years I became in a Mountain Guide UIAGM and given to become an Instructor of Mountain Guides in the School of Guides in Peru.

I helped build, install and run the famous Via Férrata and Sky Lodge in Sacred Valley, near of Cusco.

I have more than 10 years of experience climbing mountains in the Cordillera Blanca and Huayhuash mountain ranges in Peru, but also in neighboring countries such as Bolivia, Ecuador, Chile and Argentina.

I also did Wilderness First Aid course (WFA) and have completed first aid courses.

I like to share culture with people from all over the world, and help visitors make their dream come true. I speak Quechua, Spanish, English and French.
