Cordillère Blanche

6 Days

May - Oct

Description

The Ulta Trek is one of the most amazing trekking routes at the foot of the Peruvian Cordillera Blanca. During this 6-day trekking tour you will have the opportunity of walking in a remote and high environment.

The Ulta Trek will take us across the green and lush valleys of llanganuco, Huaripamapa and Santa Cruz. Each new place we walk will offer us a different but stunning view. We’ll move along incredible campsites and some mountain plateaus as well. The way ends up in the beautiful Quebrada Ulta.

The best period to enjoy this hiking adventure is from May till October. I can take with me up to 6 guests or more, if you contact me in advance. All participants must have a good physical training and some prior trekking experience. Keep in mind we’ll have to ascend more than 4800 meters of altitude.

At the bottom of this description you’ll find a more detailed day-by-day itinerary. It is just a sample program and can be adapted to the group’s wishes and expectations.

So, if you’re planning to come to the Cordillera Blanca do not hesitate and contact me now. It will be a honor for me to lead this amazing experience through the Ulta Trek.

First, a transfer will take us from Huaraz, along the Callejón de Huaylas, to the Cashapampa village, where we will meet our group. After that we will start our trek along the right bank of the Santa Cruz River through a narrow valley with waterfalls, groves, bushes and trees. We then reach a wide meadow, where is located our campsite. Overnight camp at Llama corral.

Day 2: Alpamayo Viewpoint (4200m) – Taullipampa (4250m)

This day we will walk uphill along the green lush valley of Santa Cruz until we reach Quisuar. After that we will walk on a steep hill to Alpamayo where we’ll enjoy an amazing viewpoint above the Arhueycocha gorge. Then the route takes us to the isolated Taullipampa campsite.

Optional: we can keep walking up to Alpamayo base camp and the Arhueycocha Lake. From its shores you will have a better view of Pukajirca, then we’ll go back until we are in the Taullipampa campsite, where we’ll spend the night.

Day 3: Punta union pass (4750m) – Paria valley (3800m)

This day we will walk on a gradual ascending route across the Pre-Inca trail. We then reach the Punta Union pass, with a superb view of the surrounding summits, like Pukajirca, Taulliraju, Artezonraju Andquitaraju, Taillicoca and Jatuncocha in the Santa Cruz valley. We’ll descend towards the Huaripampa valley. The camping for the night is located at the junction of Paria Valley and the Huaripampa gorge.

Day 4: Colcabanba (3400m) – Molinopampa (3600m)

Today we will walk down to a wide meadow and a flat valley. It is an easy trail until we reach the Huaripampa village, which we will pass directly in direction to Molinopampa, where we’ll set up our camp for the night.

Day 5: Avalancha camp (4500m)

After breakfast we will start walking up gradually in the company of amazing views. The trail goes through the incredible Andean vegetation, until we’ll reach the glacier lakes. Finally, we’ll be in the Avalanche camping area, where we will see several avalanches falling down and we’ll spend the night.

Day 6: Yanayacu pass (4850m) – Ulta (4300m)

Last day. We will walk in direction to the Yanayacu pass, where we can take the most amazing pictures of the giant summits of Huascaran and Chopicalqui. Climbing with guide Guillaume was absolutely a highlight of my 2-week Europe vacation. Originally, we were planning on climbing in the Calanques, but the park was closed due to wind and fire danger. Guillaume chose another amazing location (Pic de Bretagne) based on my climbing abilities and preferences and kindly offered train station pick-up and hotel drop off, which I appreciated very much. The multi-pitch route we did was not only fun but also the right amount of challenge, which I thoroughly enjoyed. The communication from the team (Gauthier) was prompt and clear—highly recommend!

Luis Silva was a great climbing guide and belayer! He taught me how to do moves that were difficult and encouraged me to try routes that were challenging for me! Because of his encouragement, I managed to complete these routes! I really enjoyed the climbs and completed 8 routes in the Sesimbra/Azoia area. The weather was perfect, no direct sun and cool enough to enjoy the climbs. Explore-Share made booking an outdoor climbing experience in Lisbon extremely easy. Luis, our guide, was fantastic, and the platform’s organization was flawless.

Patrick was a great guide. He took us on an intermediate Via Ferrata at Passo Sella. Renato was quick to respond with any outreach on the Explore-Share platform. The booking process was straightforward, and once Patrick was confirmed, all went well. It was a wonderful experience, and I’d highly recommend the platform.
