Description

The Troll Peninsula in Iceland is a fantastic world class ski touring and splitboarding destination. I invite you to join me on a 4-day ski touring and splitboarding trip and enjoy the best ski terrain the Peninsula has to offer.

The choices for an incredible ski touring and splitboarding trip are endless in this area. It offers an immense variety of slopes and mountains for all levels. Wether you are looking for steep couloirs or you just enjoy letting yourself loose on the wide open slopes, there is something for you here.

Get ready for amazing descents, like skiing all the way down to the ocean and taking a last turn on to a unique black volcanic sand beach!

We will also enjoy the amazing possibility of skiing in the rays of the midnight sun in the late season. And if you come earlier in the season, we will be able to watch the magical northern lights.

We could spend a lifetime exploring the valleys and peaks of this beautiful region. Besides, we will stay at the finest ski touring lodge in Iceland, Karlsá Lodge, near the village of Dalvik. It's located in the spectacular East coast of the Troll Peninsula, overlooking the Gold Coast of the Hidden Land on one side and the Eyja Ford on the other.

This lodge is a luxurious and perfect base for a great ski touring and splitboarding experience. It also has a Sauna and an ocean view hot tub! Not to mention the delicious local gourmet cuisine, specialized in lamb and organic fish, prepared by a fantastic in-house chef. No doubt, Karlsá is the best ski touring and splitboarding lodging option in North Iceland.

Additionally, this trip is also a cultural experience, with the possibility of meeting people who live in this remote area near the Arctic Circle. After each full day of skiing, we can soak our body in some of the many fantastic geothermal baths in the area.

This is a great way of catching up on the local gossip, as fishermen and farmers never miss their daily afternoon bath! Or we can just relax in our own outdoor spa at the Karlsá Lodge.

I know the Troll Peninsula like the back of my hand, so I will make sure you enjoy the best and safe ski touring and splitboarding experience. Also, I know the best hidden corners for amazing ski runs. And I will guide you up there! You can check the day-by-day detailed itinerary at the bottom of this page.

We also have the option of doing a Heli-drop to access virgin slopes, on one or more days of the tour. Besides, in case of bad weather I have an extensive list of exciting activities for you, from whale watching, horseback riding and cultural visits to lava fields, hot springs and even a beer spa, just to name some.

So contact me if you want to join me on this incredible 4-day ski and splitboard tour. Book your trip and we will start planning this exciting ski touring and splitboarding adventure in the Troll Peninsula in unique Iceland!

You can also take a look at all the other trips I also guide in Iceland.

Itinerary

Day 1: Akureyri-Karlsá Lodge-Welcome dinner

In the late afternoon, we meet in Akureyri, the capital of northern Iceland. A 40 min transfer takes us to Karlsá Lodge, our base for the next days, for a meet and greet. We will enjoy a delicious welcome dinner and go over the week’s agenda.

Day 2: Avalanche Training-Ski touring

This is our first ski touring day, above Karlsá Lodge. We spend the morning  on detailed avalanche transceiver and avalanche rescue training. Then, we go out to tackle our first peak of many. On average, our daily vertical ranges from 1000 to 1800 meters, depending on the group. The night here is no excuse to stop, as the midnight sun accompany us. So we can keep on skiing until you wish so.

Day 3: Dalvik-Geothermal Baths

Today we ski mountains above the small fishing village of Dalvik. We will enjoy the rare pleasure of sitting in the local geothermal baths, with the possibility of admiring our  tracks on the slopes of the surrounding peaks. Dalvik is home of some of Iceland’s most accomplished skiers and it is no wonder considering the terrain they grew up in.

Day 4: Last Ski Day and Departure

This is our last ski day, and of course I have saved the best for last! After the last great ski touring day we say goodbye.

Mountain Guide

I'm Iceland's first and only IFMGA internationally certified mountain guide. I'm a member of the Association of Canadian Mountain Guides ACMG with whom I finished my certification. I have climbed and skied extensively all over the world, and I lived and worked in both the European Alps and the mountains of Western Canada.
I have brought this wealth of diverse experiences to Iceland and the Arctic North where I have to my name over a hundred first ascents and descents in Iceland and Greenland.
My love of the mountains grew from an early age working as a shepherd on my grandparent's farm on the Troll Peninsula in Northern Iceland. Or maybe it had something to do with my name, which in English would translate directly to Glacier Mountain man.
If you want to discover this beautiful country, please get in touch with me and let's leave together for incredible adventure!

What people are saying about Explore-Share

Man

Climbing with guide Guillaume was absolutely a highlight of my 2-week Europe vacation. Originally, we were planning on climbing in the Calanques, but the park was closed due to wind and fire danger. Guillaume chose another amazing location (Pic de Bretagne) based on my climbing abilities and preferences and kindly offered train station pick-up and hotel drop off, which I appreciated very much. The multi-pitch route we did was not only fun but also the right amount of challenge, which I thoroughly enjoyed. The communication from the team (Gauthier) was prompt and clear—highly recommend!

Maxine

Luis Silva was a great climbing guide and belayer! He taught me how to do moves that were difficult and encouraged me to try routes that were challenging for me! Because of his encouragement, I managed to complete these routes! I really enjoyed the climbs and completed 8 routes in the Sesimbra/Azoia area. The weather was perfect, no direct sun and cool enough to enjoy the climbs. Explore-Share made booking an outdoor climbing experience in Lisbon extremely easy. Luis, our guide, was fantastic, and the platform’s organization was flawless.

Valeriya

You’re simply the best!!! :))) Explore-Share made everything easy and stress-free. Will definitely use again.

Joshua

We had Léo as a guide for our day climb in Fonty. We were blessed with a knowledgeable, warm, and instructive guide. Communication with Léo and Ivan was smooth and swift. Explore-Share was excellent in arranging everything for our day climb. The communication was quick, and the platform was easy to use, making our adventure stress-free.

Cami

Patrick was a great guide. He took us on an intermediate Via Ferrata at Passo Sella. Renato was quick to respond with any outreach on the Explore-Share platform. The booking process was straightforward, and once Patrick was confirmed, all went well. It was a wonderful experience, and I’d highly recommend the platform.
