Enjoy this 5-day trekking in Nahuel Huapi National Park, going from Colonia Suiza to Pampa Linda, together with an IFMGA Mountain Guide.

5 Days

Jan - May, Dec

Description

In this 5-day trekking we'll go from Colonia Suiza to Pampa Linda, enjoying the beauty of Nahuel Huapi National Park.

From there, we'll have a perfect view of Mount Tronador, the most iconic mountain in the region of Bariloche.

In fact, I recommend this trek to those who want to experience Patagonia’s incredible Andes mountains.

We’ll spend one of the nights in a mountain hut. During the rest of the nights we'll be camping, cooking and enjoying the large natural area of Nahuel Huapi National Park.

This trip involves between five and seven hours of hiking each day. The terrain has well-marked paths and high elevation ridge crossings.

For further information, you can find the complete program of this trip below.

Please contact me if you want to be a part of this breathtaking trekking traverse in North Patagonia!

I also organize other trips near Bariloche, like a hiking tour in Mount Tronador or a hut to hut trekking.

Itinerary

Day 1: Colonia Suiza

Starting in Colonia Suiza, a very small town near Bariloche, the trail goes through forests and follows a creek.

After 2 or 3 hours of hiking, we arrive to the tree line at the foot of Cerro Negro and Laguna Negra.

The lake water is clear, but due to the dark stones in the lakebed it looks black.

Day 2: Mate Dulce meadows

An early departure this morning and we’re on our way to the Bailey Willis ridge and our first glimpse of glacier-covered Mount Tronador.

Continuing westward, our journey takes us to Cab Lagoon and the beautiful Mate Dulce meadows where we will camp for the night.

Our total distance today is approximately 19 km or 7 hours.

Day 3: Creton Lagoon

A hearty breakfast and cup of coffee will fuel us to the Cristales ridgeline, at an elevation of 2000 meters.

From there, we’ll continue on to Creton Lagoon where we will set up camp and enjoy the sunset.

Today’s hike of about 5 hours is relatively short, but our efforts are rewarded with stunning views of the Andes and the valleys below.

Day 4: Illon Lagoon

Our destination today is Illon Lagoon. On this route, we’ll traverse a mountain ridgeline before dropping down to scenic meadows, perfect for lunch and maybe even a siesta.

Then it’s on to our tranquil, forested campsite with incredible views of Mount Tronador, the highest peak in Nahuel Huapi National Park.

Later this afternoon, a short hike to Mirada del Doctor offers one of the most spectacular viewpoints in the National Park, overlooking Frey Lagoon.

Today’s hike is about 6 hours in total.

Day 5: Return to Bariloche

It’s all downhill from here! Our final day is one of the best, with amazing views of Mount Tronador’s hanging glaciers.

Lunch at Park headquarters in Pampa Linda at the base of the mountain will take your breath away.

Afterwards, we make our way back to Bariloche and look forward to a final evening meal together.

Meet at one of Bariloche’s best parrilla’s for a traditional Argentine ‘asado’ dinner and a glass (or two!) of classic Malbec. Let the reminiscing begin!

Mountain Guide

I was born in a very remote area of northern Argentina which gave me a special appreciation for the outdoors. When I was 16 my family moved south, closer to the mountains, and I started to climb in the Andes. I've been mountaineering – trekking and climbing – ever since.
I've traveled and climbed throughout Argentina, Brazil, Peru, Bolivia, Chile, the USA, Canada and Europe. I spent two summer seasons working in Aosta, Italy where I completed numerous ascents and climbing on the area.
At some point in my younger years, my career path steered me to the telecommunications industry, scaling towers and fixing cellular systems. But the mountains were never far away and I eventually returned to my roots and become a mountain guide since 2001.
In the winter I focus on being a ski guide around the mountain range and also the volcanoes, this is how I spend part of my time on the winter seasons as well as teaching backcountry ski and avalanche awareness courses.

What people are saying about Explore-Share

Man

Climbing with guide Guillaume was absolutely a highlight of my 2-week Europe vacation. Originally, we were planning on climbing in the Calanques, but the park was closed due to wind and fire danger. Guillaume chose another amazing location (Pic de Bretagne) based on my climbing abilities and preferences and kindly offered train station pick-up and hotel drop off, which I appreciated very much. The multi-pitch route we did was not only fun but also the right amount of challenge, which I thoroughly enjoyed. The communication from the team (Gauthier) was prompt and clear—highly recommend!

Maxine

Luis Silva was a great climbing guide and belayer! He taught me how to do moves that were difficult and encouraged me to try routes that were challenging for me! Because of his encouragement, I managed to complete these routes! I really enjoyed the climbs and completed 8 routes in the Sesimbra/Azoia area. The weather was perfect, no direct sun and cool enough to enjoy the climbs. Explore-Share made booking an outdoor climbing experience in Lisbon extremely easy. Luis, our guide, was fantastic, and the platform’s organization was flawless.

We had Léo as a guide for our day climb in Fonty. We were blessed with a knowledgeable, warm, and instructive guide. Communication with Léo and Ivan was smooth and swift. Explore-Share was excellent in arranging everything for our day climb. The communication was quick, and the platform was easy to use, making our adventure stress-free.

Cami

Patrick was a great guide. He took us on an intermediate Via Ferrata at Passo Sella. Renato was quick to respond with any outreach on the Explore-Share platform. The booking process was straightforward, and once Patrick was confirmed, all went well. It was a wonderful experience, and I’d highly recommend the platform.
