Description

Have a wonderful time exploring the Cordillera Blanca on this 10-day adventure departing from Huaraz in Peru. We’ll get to the top of three wonderful peaks in the range: Ishinca (5,530 meters), Urus (5,423 meters) and Tocllaraju (6,034 meters).

Located in the Huascarán National Park, Urus Peak is an excellent ascent for acclimatization. As for Ishinca, due to its easy route and incredible sights, it’s one of the most famous mountains in the range. Certainly, the big star of our expedition will be Tocllaraju, one of the tallest and most popular peaks in the Cordillera Blanca and Perú.

Apart from the ascents, on this 10-day program, I offer you the possibility to go rock climbing around the Antacocha Lake. This is an excellent climbing destination near Huaraz where we can enjoy great multi-pitch routes and contemplate fantastic views from the range. Furthermore, we’ll go on acclimatization ascents and discover beautiful lakes in the area. Please, take a look at the bottom of the page for a detailed description of the itinerary.

Regarding difficulty, keep in mind it’s mandatory for this program to have prior mountaineering experience as well as a very good level of fitness.

Itinerary

Day 1: Rock climbing day in Antacocha

On day 1, we can go rock climbing around Antacocha Lake or, if you don’t wish to climb, we can visit the gorgeous Lake 69, inside the Huascarán National Park.

Day 2: Nevado Mateo

We’ll enjoy a full day of mountaineering to the summit of Nevado Mateo, at 5,150 meters of altitude.

Day 3: Rest Day (optional)

Day 4: Huaraz - Base Camp

On this day, we’ll depart from Huaraz at 8 am in the direction of Pashpa, where we’ll begin our 4-hour approach to the Base Camp.

Day 5: Base Camp - Ishinca - Base Camp

We’ll wake up very early in the morning and depart at 4.30 am to the Ishinca summit. After 1.30 hours, we’ll get to the Ishinca Glacier and then it will take us 3 hours reach the top. Afterwards, we can descend through the same route or across the west face.

Day 6: Base Camp - Urus - Base Camp

Day 6 will also start very early: we’ll wake up at 4 am and depart at 5 am. This ascent is easier and it will take us around 2 hours to get to the summit, from where we’ll gaze at a breathtaking views.

Day 7: Rest and preparation day

Day 8: Morrena Camp Tocllaraju

At 10 am, we’ll go on a 2-hour climb and take our equipment to the Morrena Camp, at 5,150 meters of altitude.

Day 9: Tocllaraju Summit

On the summit day, we’ll begin our journey at 1 am to get to the top between 7 and 9 am. Then, we’ll begin the descent to the Base Camp, where we’ll relax and celebrate our achievement.

Day 10: Base Camp - Huaraz

We’ll share breakfast at 8 am and then return to Huaraz.

Participants should bring coat, sunscreen, sunglasses, warm clothes, waterproof jacket, gloves, waterproof pants, socks, mountain boots, helmet, harness, 2 carabiners with insurance, ATC with HMS carabiner, crampons, sticks and 2 ice axes.
