Description

The High Tatras is a mountain range, part of the Carpathian Mountains chain, running along the border between Slovakia and Poland. In fact, this area has some of the most beautiful landscapes of Slovakia.

The variety of terrains is great, allowing us to enjoy a rewarding tour. Even though the mountains are less high than in the Alps, the sceneries are incredible.

During this 4-day tour, we will go through saddles and ski down some of the most beautiful valleys in the region, some of which can be rather steep. Besides, going from hut to hut will allow us to discover more of the area.

This tour is not apt for beginners but if you have some experience you will enjoy it very much! The adventure is similar to a multi-day tour in the Alps, but in a novel environment. We will go down some amazing slopes!

Itinerary

Day 1: Popradské pleso - Mengusovská valley - Západná Volia štrbina

We start at the train stop Popradské pleso (1245 m). Next we walk to Mengusovská valley and to Západná Volia štrbina (2355 m). It is the Slovak – Polish state border. From the saddle, a pleasant terrain to the valley and to the hotel at Popradské pleso.
We sleep at the Mengusovská valley in a mountain hotel – Popradské pleso (1494 m).

Day 2: Zlomiská valley - saddle Východná Železná brána - Kačacia valley - saddle Prielom - Veľká Studená valley - Zbojnícka chata

Today the tour continues to the Zlomiská valley. Then we ascend to saddle Východná Železná brána (2255 m). We ski to the Kačacia valley – a wild part of the High Tatras.
We ski through the Kačacia valley, then we climb to the saddle Prielom (2373 m). From the saddle we ski to the Veľká Studená valley. At the valley we will have dinner and accommodation in a mountain hut – Zbojnícka chata (1960 m).

Day 3: saddle Priečne sedlo - Malá studená valley - saddle Baranie sedlo - Veľká Zmrzlá valley - chata pri Zelenom plese

We walk through the valley to the saddle Priečne sedlo (2352 m). We ski to the Malá studená valley, though it is a bit narrow and the slopes are 45°.
We walk through the Malá Studená valley. Then we climb to the saddle Baranie sedlo (2526 m). From Baranie sedlo we ski to the Veľká Zmrzlá valley. At the top it is rather narrow and the slopes are 45°. We ski down the valley to the mountain hut chata pri Zelenom plese (1551 m). Our descent will be around 900 m of altitude.

Day 4: Červená valley - Jastrabie saddle - Zeleného plesa valley

We climb to the Červená valley and then to the Jastrabie saddle (2100 m). From the saddle we ski to the Červená valley and to the Zeleného plesa valley. We have a short break at the hut, then descend to the bus stop Biela voda (925 m).

Mountain Guide

I was born in Poprad and I live, work and relax in the High Tatras. I have been climbing in this region for 15 years both in summer and winter.
Since 2001 I am a professional rescuer with a completed Bachelor education in Urgent Medical Care. Furthermore, I work in The Experts Mountain Rescue Service (in High Tatras) as an avalanche specialist.
In 2009, after passing the entrance examination for mountain guiding, I started the roundabout course. In April 2010, I became a mountain guide aspirant in the National Association of Mountain Guides of the Slovak Republic.
In 2011, during the final course in Chamonix - Mont Blanc (France) I successfully completed the course of mountain guide during four days of tests, under the strict supervision of Technical Commission NAHVSR instructors. Since then, I am a mountain guide with the IFMGA / UIAGM international license.
Thanks to this job (and hobby) I am pleased to expand the horizons of my clients and share with them my knowledge and experience as a mountain guide.
