The Tatra mountains are located at the border between Poland and Slovakia. They are a fantastic destination for ski touring, and I propose here to discover them from hut to hut during 5 wonderful days.
Although they don’t rise to high altitudes, they receive abundant snowfall. Therefore, skiers have a vast choice of varied routes of all difficulties, always with first-quality snow.
We will traverse the entire Tatra mountain range going from hut to hut. From west to east, we will ascend the most beautiful peaks, get to the highest passes, and enjoy wonderful descents to reward our hard work.
Zakopane is a city in southern Poland. Its location is great, right in the center of the Tatra mountain range. Zakopane is a perfect combination of a beautiful tourist destination and a place that maintains its local traditions. This is where our itinerary begins.
We will traverse the entire arch of the Polish Tatra mountain range, exploring the national park of the same name. The refuges along the route are guarded. We will cross large and gentle valleys, climb to steep ridges and enjoy breathtaking views.
In fact, you will see the progression of the views. Starting with the Tatra Bassi, facing west, with softer profiles. And the east side of the range is the High Tatras. Here, we will be able to leave our trace on some of the most characteristic trails of the region.
The daily altitude change is around 1000 meters. There are no glacial zones, so it is not necessary to have that prior experience. But you do need to have a high enough technical level and skiing experience to participate (comparable to BSA classified trips). Please ask me if you are in doubt.
In the itinerary below you will find more details about the objectives of the different days.
Tempted to traverse the Tatra mountains during 5 days on your skis and skins? Then wait no further, book this trip and we will start planning the details of this wonderful adventure! And for more unforgettable ski touring programs, have a look at this one at the Etna volcano.
Meeting point
We meet in Zakopane. Briefing in the late afternoon, dinner and overnight at a small town hotel.
We reach Siwa Polana by taxi. It is the entrance to the valley. We will then have the chance to climb the Grzes, Rakon, Wolowiec or Lopata. All the ascents are perfect as a warm-up, aprox 900m uphill, with a fantastic descent (5-6hs).
Following the northern shoulder of the Trzydniowianski Wierch, we will reach the summit to get to the Starorobocianska Valley. A short climb up to Siwa Przelecz, to then enjoy a fantastic descent to the hut, in the Schronisko na Hali Ornak forest.

Climbing with guide Guillaume was absolutely a highlight of my 2-week Europe vacation. Originally, we were planning on climbing in the Calanques, but the park was closed due to wind and fire danger. Guillaume chose another amazing location (Pic de Bretagne) based on my climbing abilities and preferences and kindly offered train station pick-up and hotel drop off, which I appreciated very much. The multi-pitch route we did was not only fun but also the right amount of challenge, which I thoroughly enjoyed. The communication from the team (Gauthier) was prompt and clear—highly recommend!

Luis Silva was a great climbing guide and belayer! He taught me how to do moves that were difficult and encouraged me to try routes that were challenging for me! Because of his encouragement, I managed to complete these routes! I really enjoyed the climbs and completed 8 routes in the Sesimbra/Azoia area. The weather was perfect, no direct sun and cool enough to enjoy the climbs. Explore-Share made booking an outdoor climbing experience in Lisbon extremely easy. Luis, our guide, was fantastic, and the platform’s organization was flawless.

Explore-Share was excellent in arranging everything for our day climb. The communication was quick, and the platform was easy to use, making our adventure stress-free.

Patrick was a great guide. He took us on an intermediate Via Ferrata at Passo Sella. Renato was quick to respond with any outreach on the Explore-Share platform. The booking process was straightforward, and once Patrick was confirmed, all went well. It was a wonderful experience, and I’d highly recommend the platform.
