Description
De Los Tres Glacier (0,83km2) is one of the most visited sites around the small alpine village of El Chalten (400m), in the province of Santa Cruz, in Argentina’s southern Patagonia region. Located within the Los Glaciares National Park (7,269.27km2), the largest natural reserve in the country, El Chalten is considered to be Argentina’s Trekking Capital. It is surrounded by stunning peaks in the southern Andes Range (6,961m), massive glaciers, glacial lakes, and virgin forests.
While De Los Tres Glacier is one of the most visited sites in the area during the summer, exploring it in the solitude of winter, surrounded by a white blanket of snow and ice, can be even more attractive!
Our day trip will depart from El Chalten early in the morning. We will drive 15 kilometers to El Pilar inn, in the middle of a dense alpine forest, where we will take a trail up to De Los Tres Glacier. The path climbs across the Rio Blanco Valley over 7 kilometers, up to the Rio Blanco Base Camp. A steep 1,200-meter ascent will then take us to the famous De Los Tres Lagoon, from where we will enjoy the most breathtaking views to the Fitz Roy (3,405m), one of the most iconic peaks in the Andes. Depending on the ice conditions, we will hike around or across the lagoon, and climb to the area between Punta Velluda (1,963m), the last base camp used to attempt Fitz Roy summit, and the Cerro Madsen peak (1,806m). During our way back, we will ride along wide slopes with amazing deep snow!
This is a challenging route, which involves a total ascent of 1,300-meters. Therefore, participants must be in good shape and have prior splitboarding experience. They need to take their own personal equipment, including regular and splitboard crampons. I will take groups of a maximum of 4 people.

I live in El Chaltén since 1998. I'm originally from Bariloche and I started with mountain activities when I was 15 years old. I've done climbing and ascents in many mountains of Patagonia, Perú, Bolivia, United States and Europe; such as Fitz Roy, Cerro Torre, Alpamayo, El Capitán, Mont Blanc and Aconcagua among others. I'm also a Ski Instructor and I am passionate for backcountry ski.
I speak fluent English, Italian and French and have been leading trips and expeditions for more than 20 years. I work together with a group of guides, so if I'm not available for the trip you request, one of my colleagues will guide you!

Luis Silva was a great climbing guide and belayer! He taught me how to do moves that were difficult and encouraged me to try routes that were challenging for me! Because of his encouragement, I managed to complete these routes! I really enjoyed the climbs and completed 8 routes in the Sesimbra/Azoia area.
