Description

Spend the weekend skiing in Sweden, away from it all, as you enjoy the untouched powder runs of the Jämtland backcountry on this 3-day adventure that will take you to experience the best runs in Scandinavia.

This unique weekend tour takes place in the backcountry of north Jämtland, approximately 90 minutes from Östersund, where we will stay in a cozy farmhouse and experience unparalleled skiing conditions. We’re talking about fresh snow from the night before, in abundant quantities, pristine, pure, and untouched, just waiting for us to finish a delicious breakfast by the woodstove before we set off.

We take care of the logistics and of you. A snowmobile transfer to the farm, accommodation, and all meals with delicious 3-course dinners. Plus, an overview of avalanche safety and how to get to the perfect spots where the trees are spaced for the best powder turns. Meanwhile, when you’re not out enjoying splendid runs, you will help to feed the fire, drink hot coffee, play games, and have a good time.

If it sounds like a plan to you, then keep in mind that you don’t need to be an expert, but you do require some prior ski touring experience to join. Additionally, you will need a good level of fitness as we will be skiing throughout the day.  Ideally, you will also have some experience using or learning to use avalanche equipment. If you have any questions about this, please don’t hesitate to ask.

So, are you ready for a great time in the Jamtland backcountry? Then contact us today and we will be happy to take you skiing in Sweden on an unforgettable getaway weekend.

Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival and warm-up

On the morning of day 1, we will meet in Östersund and drive to the small village of Lakavattnet. If you arrive in your own car, it is also possible to go straight there.

Once we arrive, we will ski to the farm behind a snowmobile while our equipment rides on a sled. When we arrive,  will have an early lunch prepared by Håkan and go for a nearby tour. We will quickly review avalanche equipment before heading up towards the treeline. One or several runs will be possible before we head back to enjoy a 3-course dinner.

Day 2: Ski touring options

We will have multiple options and may venture a bit further off than on the first day.

We will adjust the itinerary to the participants but on the top of the agenda is first-class powder skiing. Because we will be close to varied terrain and slope angle, we will be able to really enjoy the day without needing much transport.

Day 3: Last runs and farewell

The last of our ski touring days at Almdalen Mountain Farm starts with a healthy breakfast and some great ski runs. Perhaps a quick stop by the farm for something cold or warm to drink before we head off with the snowmobile towards civilization.  We expect to be back in Östersund in the afternoon for those who may wish to travel by train or airplane.

Mountain Leader

Some say they started with their outdoor adventures at a certain stage in life - I simply never stopped. A childhood spent outdoors led me to the career of guiding. 3 years of education in Vadstena with the Leadership and Outdoor program and another 1½ years to become a Wilderness and Adventure guide at Campus Åre.

Since 2013 I have been self-employed and working as a freelance mountain leader all over Scandinavia and I am happy to call it my home. I have also made sure to invest in further education such as 80 hours first aid training - Wilderness First Responder (NOLS), avalanche course PRO 2 through SVELAV and I carry the National Award for Mountain Leaders to mention a few.

On top of this, I make sure to put my skills to good use as a Chairman of the Swedish Mountain Leader Organisation, a delegate to UIMLA, and as a board member of the Mountain Safety Council of Sweden. I am also helping the Industry Organisation of Sustainable Snowmobile Tourism as an expert member in their task of building a guide training. Previous work also includes training Mountain Leaders and setting up operation guidelines and safety plans for other guiding companies.

My biggest passion is helping others access wild places and showing them the best parts of outdoor adventure. I will be happy to share my knowledge and guide you especially in the Scandinavian Mountain Range which stretches 1700 kilometers on the border between Sweden and Norway.

Climbing with guide Guillaume was absolutely a highlight of my 2-week Europe vacation. Originally, we were planning on climbing in the Calanques, but the park was closed due to wind and fire danger. Guillaume chose another amazing location (Pic de Bretagne) based on my climbing abilities and preferences and kindly offered train station pick-up and hotel drop off, which I appreciated very much. The multi-pitch route we did was not only fun but also the right amount of challenge, which I thoroughly enjoyed. The communication from the team (Gauthier) was prompt and clear—highly recommend!

Luis Silva was a great climbing guide and belayer! He taught me how to do moves that were difficult and encouraged me to try routes that were challenging for me! Because of his encouragement, I managed to complete these routes! I really enjoyed the climbs and completed 8 routes in the Sesimbra/Azoia area. The weather was perfect, no direct sun and cool enough to enjoy the climbs. Explore-Share made booking an outdoor climbing experience in Lisbon extremely easy. Luis, our guide, was fantastic, and the platform’s organization was flawless.

Explore-Share was excellent in arranging everything for our day climb. The communication was quick, and the platform was easy to use, making our adventure stress-free.

Patrick was a great guide. He took us on an intermediate Via Ferrata at Passo Sella. Renato was quick to respond with any outreach on the Explore-Share platform. The booking process was straightforward, and once Patrick was confirmed, all went well. It was a wonderful experience, and I’d highly recommend the platform.
