Ski touring in The Troll Peninsula, in Iceland

Join IFMGA guide, Alexandre, on a fantastic 7-day ski touring trip in the Troll Peninsula, around Iceland's huge volcanic plateaus and large glaciers.

7 Days

Apr - Jun

Description

Iceland is a volcanic island full of contrasts. Huge volcanic plateaus, large glaciers, and a low population density are some of its main features. In the north of the country, next to Dalvik village, it’s The Troll Peninsula, an amazing place with peaks of almost 1200 m, glaciers and fjords.

Actually, The Troll is a classic ski touring destination, because of its mountains and slopes for every level.

Our skiing tour will follow the shape of a star. Our starting point will be a little and friendly hotel in Dalvik. Once there, we’ll have some amazing descents in front of the ocean, walk in the mountains with an incredible ski quality and experience long days with only a few hours of night. Besides, there’s a chance of having helicopter drop offs too.

As regards the ski level required for this trip, you must have a good level. But above all, you have to feel comfortable in high altitudes and elevation changes.

Please contact me if you want to be a part of this ski touring adventure. I’m an IFMGA mountain guide and will be glad of showing you some great places in The Troll Peninsula!

Mountain Leader

UIAGM/IFMGA mountain guide
I’m from the Hautes Alps and I have always lived among the summits. In fact, it’s quite natural that I have wanted, since my childhood, to build my life around this high places…
Skiing was the first stage in my mountaineer construction. I got my alpine and canoe kayak certificate in 1995… Sport has always been my vocation. I left school and I immediately started working in the mountain sports profession. I became mountain guide in 2005, and since 2007 I became fully committed to my profession since I choose to guide all year round, in summer at Valgaudemar guides office and in the Alps d’huez guides office in winter.
I am also ambassador of freeskiing/mountaineering for Salomon brand.
I work in all terrains, especially in the alpine region as well as abroad. I am very eager to discover in this multi-facetted profession.
I have a visceral passion for climbing, skiing, mountaineering, which I still practice as an amateur, but especially the love of the people: to give, to listen, to advice, to give and carry, to better receive…

Here are some of my favourite courses:
- In winter: Ski touring in Norway, freerando Ski in Gressoney/Alagna, Ski touring in Iceland, freerando Ski in Haute Tarentaise and Ski Guiding in the Dolomites.
- In summer: Traverse of the Meije, Chamonix edges, Soreiller cirque climbing, the 4000 of the Valais edges, climbing to Salbitschen, Argentera and Verdon climbing.

Feel free to contact me if you are interested in discovering these incredible places, or others, either walking, skiing or mountaineering. It will be a pleasure for me to lead you in these adventures.

Climbing with guide Guillaume was absolutely a highlight of my 2-week Europe vacation. Originally, we were planning on climbing in the Calanques, but the park was closed due to wind and fire danger. Guillaume chose another amazing location (Pic de Bretagne) based on my climbing abilities and preferences and kindly offered train station pick-up and hotel drop off, which I appreciated very much. The multi-pitch route we did was not only fun but also the right amount of challenge, which I thoroughly enjoyed. The communication from the team (Gauthier) was prompt and clear—highly recommend!

Luis Silva was a great climbing guide and belayer! He taught me how to do moves that were difficult and encouraged me to try routes that were challenging for me! Because of his encouragement, I managed to complete these routes! I really enjoyed the climbs and completed 8 routes in the Sesimbra/Azoia area. The weather was perfect, no direct sun and cool enough to enjoy the climbs. Explore-Share made booking an outdoor climbing experience in Lisbon extremely easy. Luis, our guide, was fantastic, and the platform’s organization was flawless.

We had Léo as a guide for our day climb in Fonty. We were blessed with a knowledgeable, warm, and instructive guide. Communication with Léo and Ivan was smooth and swift. Explore-Share was excellent in arranging everything for our day climb. The communication was quick, and the platform was easy to use, making our adventure stress-free.

Patrick was a great guide. He took us on an intermediate Via Ferrata at Passo Sella. Renato was quick to respond with any outreach on the Explore-Share platform. The booking process was straightforward, and once Patrick was confirmed, all went well. It was a wonderful experience, and I’d highly recommend the platform.
