Description

Have you ever dreamt of skiing on the high slopes in Europe? If yes, then join me on this incredible ski trip in the beautiful Pirin mountain in eastern Europe.

Located in southwestern Bulgaria, Pirin Mountain is a beautiful mountain range which is also recognized as a UNESCO world heritage site.

This ski-alpinism trip has a lot to offer. We’ll begin in the capital city of Sofia and drive to the Bansko area. The first day involves a warm-up with freeriding amidst the centuries-old pine forests of the lower mountain.

The following days, as we’ll gain altitude, we will combine technical mountaineering like ridge climbing and freeriding to test some of the highest peaks of the Pirin which scale up to almost 3000 meters.

The trip includes traversing the Dzhamdziev ridge to reach Vihren peak, the highest summit in the Pirin. As you’ll capture the summit, get ready for some jaw-dropping views. And imagine how amazing it would be to descend on ski from the top of this soaring peak.

Though I have designed a 4-day itinerary for this trip, however, you can extend or reduce the duration depending upon your requirement.

Regarding fitness, keep in mind that good shape is required. And, as long as you possess some basic technical mountaineering skills and know average skiing, you’ll be just fine.

Itinerary

Day 1: Pick up from Sofia

I will pick you from Sofia airport, drive you to Bansko. You’ll have a short day of ski on the piste.

Day 2: Freeriding around Bansko

Freeriding in the forests around the ski zone of Bansko. Overnight in Vihren hut.

Day 3: Climb the Vihren peak

Climb the Dzhamdziev ridge to capture the Vihren peak – the highest summit in the Pirin and descend on the ski.

Day 4: Traverse the ridge of Koncheto

Traverse the exposed ridge of Koncheto and descend on ski.

Mountain Guide

Mountains have been part of my life for more than two decades now. It's been an intense relationship that consumed my everything. First, I practiced skiing and all forms of climbing: sport, traditional, big wall, aid, ice and mixed. I risked it all, giving my life away and winning it back on big and hard mountain faces.

Some years later, I studied paramedicine and joined the Heli-Rescue service. I witnessed my own triumph as an alpinist and tragedy as a rescuer, which completed my understanding of what the mountain is in relation to people. This was the beginning of the end of my alpinist alter ego.

In 2016 I climbed Cerro Torre and pushed a new line as a mountaineer in Patagonia. This was the climbing climax which gave way to my mountain guiding career: my third and most balanced perspective on the world of mountains and on the mountains of the world. Since then, I've guided climbing and skiing trips in the Alps, the Caucasus range, the Cordillera Blanca in Peru and in the mountains ranges of Eastern Europe, among others.

Appreciating happiness through the eyes of others is what finally brought harmony to me, and this is what I want to share with people.
