Cordillère Blanche

7 Days

May - Sep

Description

It’s my pleasure to lead this adventure in the Cordillera Blanca that combines trekking with climbing.

Let me invite you to spend 7 days exploring the region and reaching the most amazing places of Santa Cruz and Mount Pisco.

On the one hand, the Santa Cruz trek is one of the most demanding but magnificent trekking routes. During this trek, you’ll have the chance of hiking in a remote natural environment full of lush valleys. Some of the main places you’ll visit are Llanganuco, Huaripamapa and Santa Cruz, always in the company of the surrounding summits over 6000 meters.

On the other hand, the Mount Pisco, at 5,752 meters of altitude, is probably one of the best acclimatization climbs before a bigger summit attempt. Climbing the Mount Pisco does not involve any technical difficulty so it is a perfect expedition for all levels of climbers.

At the end of this description you can find more details about the day-by-day itinerary.  For people who prefer an easier trek I strongly recommend to do this adventure in 8 days. That way we can do an acclimatization tour before the ascent.

The best period to enjoy this adventure is from May till October. I can take with me up to 6 guests or more, if you contact me with anticipation.

So, do not wait any longer and get in touch with me if you want to join me! Let me help you guide through these amazing spots of the Cordillera Blanca.

Itinerary

Day 1: Huaraz – Cashapampa (2990m) – Llama Corral (3760m)

In the morning a private transfer will take you, across the Callejón de Huaylas, to the village of Cashapampa, where we will meet. Then, we’ll walk along the right bank of the Santa Cruz river in order to reach a wide meadow, where our campsite is located. Overnight camp at Llama Corral.

Day 2: Alpamayo Viewpoint (4200m) – Taullipampa (4250m)

This day we will walk on a gently uphill trail, along the green lush valley of Santa Cruz. After that, the trail winds up on a zig zag until Alpamayo. Finally, the route takes us to the isolated Taullipampa campsite.

* Optional: you can keep walking up to Alpamayo base camp and the Arhueycocha Lake. Then we will go back to the Taullipampa camping site, where we’ll spend the night.

Day 3: Punta union pass (4750m) – paria valley (3800m)

This day we will walk on a gradual ascending route across the Pre-Inca trail. We then reach the Punta Union pass, with a superb view of the surrounding summits, like Pukajirca, Taulliraju, Artezonraju Andquitaraju, Taillicoca and Jatuncocha in the Santa Cruz valley. We’ll descend towards the Huaripampa valley. The camping for the night is located at the junction of Paria Valley and the Huaripampa gorge.

Day 4: Vaquería (3700m) – Yungay – Huaraz

This day we will walk down into a wide meadow and a flat green valley with some sections of quenual, quisuar and forest. We will then reach Huaripampa village and continue to the Vaqueria settlement. Here our private transfer will be waiting to take us to Cebollapampa. On the road we will pass by the Portachuelo pass, where the view is great. Overnight camp at Cebollapampa.

Day 5: Cebollapampa - Pisco Base Camp (4650m)

This day we walk from Cebollapampa towards the base camp, with the help of donkeys and donkey drivers, who are going to load our climbing gear up to the base camp. Overnight at Pisco base camp.

Day 6: Summit attack (5752m) - base camp

We will leave early in the morning from the base camp (1 AM). We must climb on the rocky section until we reach the glacier. Then we climb through the west ridge, where there are occasionally some steep slopes and ice sections. This route is not too difficult but it means a challenge due to the altitude. Once at the top of Mount Pisco the view is really impressive. After spending few minutes on the summit, we will return to the base Camp by the same route. Last night at base camp in Cebollapampa.

Day 7: Base Camp – Cebollapampa - Huaraz

On our last day after our breakfast we will walk down to Cebollapampa town, where our private transfer awaits to bring us back to Huaraz.

What people are saying about Explore-Share

Man

Climbing with guide Guillaume was absolutely a highlight of my 2-week Europe vacation. Originally, we were planning on climbing in the Calanques, but the park was closed due to wind and fire danger. Guillaume chose another amazing location (Pic de Bretagne) based on my climbing abilities and preferences and kindly offered train station pick-up and hotel drop off, which I appreciated very much. The multi-pitch route we did was not only fun but also the right amount of challenge, which I thoroughly enjoyed. The communication from the team (Gauthier) was prompt and clear—highly recommend!

Maxine

Luis Silva was a great climbing guide and belayer! He taught me how to do moves that were difficult and encouraged me to try routes that were challenging for me! Because of his encouragement, I managed to complete these routes! I really enjoyed the climbs and completed 8 routes in the Sesimbra/Azoia area. The weather was perfect, no direct sun and cool enough to enjoy the climbs. Explore-Share made booking an outdoor climbing experience in Lisbon extremely easy. Luis, our guide, was fantastic, and the platform’s organization was flawless.

Valeriya

We had Léo as a guide for our day climb in Fonty. We were blessed with a knowledgeable, warm, and instructive guide. Communication with Léo and Ivan was smooth and swift. Explore-Share was excellent in arranging everything for our day climb. The communication was quick, and the platform was easy to use, making our adventure stress-free.

Patrick was a great guide. He took us on an intermediate Via Ferrata at Passo Sella. Renato was quick to respond with any outreach on the Explore-Share platform. The booking process was straightforward, and once Patrick was confirmed, all went well. It was a wonderful experience, and I’d highly recommend the platform.
