May - Oct

Description

Let me invite you to this hiking trip across the Santa Cruz-Llanganuco trail, in the heart of the Cordillera Blanca.

The Santa Cruz-Llanganuco trek I am proposing you today is a perfect option for those without previous hiking experience. Moreover, it is also ideal for hikers in search of a technical improvement.

During this amazing trek you will witness the spectacular mountain views across the valleys of Llanganuco, Huaripamapa and Santa Cruz. It will take us 4 days, including an acclimatization day, which is completely necessary. Keep in mind that the maximum altitude we’ll reach is 4750 meters.

The Santa Cruz-Llanganuco trek is an ideal program to enjoy from May to October, during the Peru dry season. I can lead a group of no more than 6 participants. Our meeting point will be in Huaraz. For more details of the day-by-day itinerary, please find the complete program at the bottom of this page.

And if you’re decided and want to book your place now, get in touch with me. I will be here, happy to answer your doubts. It will be my pleasure to lead you through the amazing spots of the Cordillera Blanca.

Itinerary

Day 1: Huaraz – Cashapampa (2290m) – Llama corral (3760m)

I will pick you up at your hotel with our private vehicle. Then we will drive along the Callejón de Huaylas valley, passing through small towns, which still keep their colonial architecture. On the way we will also stop several times to enjoy the spectacular views of the Peruvian Andes, including the western face of the mount Huascaran, the highest peak of Perú. After that, we will continue driving to the Cashapampa village, where we will meet our donkeys and donkey drivers. Now it’s hiking time! We will walk uphill along the right bank of the Santa Cruz river and into a narrow valley with amazing waterfalls. Finally, we will get to a wide grassy meadow, where our campsite is located (Llamacorral).

Day 2: Alpamayo viewpoint (4200m)– Taullipampa (4250m)

After breakfast, we will start walking, passing by the beautiful mountain lakes of Ichiccocha and Jatuncocha. We will continue hiking across the Santa Cruz valley up to a quisuar forest. After that we will walk uphill until we reach the Alpamayo viewpoint, above the Arhueycocha gorge, where we will relax and enjoy the splendid summits views. After a break for lunch, the trail bring us to the isolated Taullipampa campsite, located at the foot of Mount Taulliraju.

Day 3: Taullipampa - Punta union Pass (4750m) – Paria Valley (3800m)

After breakfast we will start walking on a gradual ascent across the Pre-Inca route until we reach the Punta Union pass, where we will enjoy the most spectacular panoramic views of the surrounding mountains and the turquoise lakes. After a short rest and a good lunch we will cross the pass and descend towards the Huaripampa Valley, admiring small glacial lakes, waterfalls and Andean trees. Finally, we will be in our campsite at Paria Valley to spend the last night in tents.

Day 4: Vaquería (3700m) – Llanganuco – Huaraz

After our breakfast we will start walking down into a wide meadow with some sections of quenual and quisuar forest. The trail is quite easy until reaching to the Huaripampa Village, where we will have the opportunity to meet friendly and nice Quechua inhabitants. We will then continue walking down until we get to Vaqueria. Our private transfer will be waiting us here to drive back Huaraz, where this program ends.

Mountain Guide

IFMGA/UIAGM guide from Perú.

I was born in the Huaraz city, which is located between cordillera blanca & cordillera negra neighbor of huayhuash mountain range.

My passion for the mountain was born since I was a child, because I watched my father going to the mountain. When I was 13 years old I started going on treks with my father and clients, and as soon as I finished my high school I applied to the high school mountain center studies (CEAM) in 2001 and I graduated as an official mountain guide in 2005.

I have a wide guiding experience in trekking and climbing, organizing, trekking and climbing expeditions into cordillera Blanca & huayhuash in the Peruvian mountains.

I guided successfully in Mexico, Argentina where I climbed conquering the mount Aconcagua at (6959 m).

In Peru I have climbed the most beautiful mountain in the world mount "Alpamayo", and the Peruvian highest peak "mount Huascaran south peak". In 2005 I made a speed record climbing mounts "Alpamayo" & "Quitaraju" in 32 hours 16 minutes. I also opened some new routes to climbing in cordillera Blanca.

Aside from the AGMP / IFMGA certification, I also have the WFR certification.

What people are saying about Explore-Share

Climbing with guide Guillaume was absolutely a highlight of my 2-week Europe vacation. Originally, we were planning on climbing in the Calanques, but the park was closed due to wind and fire danger. Guillaume chose another amazing location (Pic de Bretagne) based on my climbing abilities and preferences and kindly offered train station pick-up and hotel drop off, which I appreciated very much. The multi-pitch route we did was not only fun but also the right amount of challenge, which I thoroughly enjoyed. The communication from the team (Gauthier) was prompt and clear—highly recommend!

Maxine

Luis Silva was a great climbing guide and belayer! He taught me how to do moves that were difficult and encouraged me to try routes that were challenging for me! Because of his encouragement, I managed to complete these routes! I really enjoyed the climbs and completed 8 routes in the Sesimbra/Azoia area. The weather was perfect, no direct sun and cool enough to enjoy the climbs. Explore-Share made booking an outdoor climbing experience in Lisbon extremely easy. Luis, our guide, was fantastic, and the platform’s organization was flawless.

We had Léo as a guide for our day climb in Fonty. We were blessed with a knowledgeable, warm, and instructive guide. Communication with Léo and Ivan was smooth and swift. Explore-Share was excellent in arranging everything for our day climb. The communication was quick, and the platform was easy to use, making our adventure stress-free.

Patrick was a great guide. He took us on an intermediate Via Ferrata at Passo Sella. Renato was quick to respond with any outreach on the Explore-Share platform. The booking process was straightforward, and once Patrick was confirmed, all went well. It was a wonderful experience, and I’d highly recommend the platform.
