Description

Step back into history and peer out from one of France´s most notable strongholds! The Malmort Castle is an evocative destination in the Mercantour, and it is a great place to take in the splendor of the Roya Valley!

Located in the southeast corner of both France and the Mercantour, the Roya Valley is nestled between the inspiring mountainsides of the Alps. Boasting an array of wildlife, it has no shortage of surprise and inspiration to travelers who come here looking for adventure.

The captivating meadows are a stunning backdrop to any hike, and the mountain hills turn every afternoon into a pleasant one. The gorgeous medieval village of Saorge stands out from the landscape, snuggled tightly into the lush green hills rolling high along the valleys.

Your program is designed to enjoy these delightful views from the ruins of Chateau de Malmort. A 13th century fortress that now sits abandoned and in ruins, it offers spectacular panoramas of the region. The panoramas give you an idea of the tranquility of this remote land, and the hike gives you a hands-on appreciation of one of the Alps´ wildest landscapes.

Alpine streams accompany you along the trails, and you will be immersed in every part of the land as you climb and descend in elevation. As we climb, you will see the advantage that the Mercantour has among other spots in the Alps.

The castle is one of three that defended the surrounding area of Saorge, and Malmort played a pivotal role in the strategic enterprises of the revolutionary wars. This hike is unlike any other, and you will have a truly unique experience, particularly for the Alps.

This hike is for anyone interested in the history of France and Europe, and would like to appreciate it alongside its natural beauty. You should be in relatively good shape to enjoy this program.

Stop waiting and start BOOKING this day program so you can hike your way through the charming Mercantour and see the Malmort Castle!

I can also guide you on a day hike of the Siagne Valley! Or we can head for a two-day trek in the Mercantour and spend the night in hanging tents!

My passion is hiking and it has been since I was a child. I am a Mountain Leader, ready to make you gain altitude!
My goal is to live adventures in a wild nature. And there are as many possibilities as varied landscapes and seasons!
Always looking for new spaces, privileged and authentic moments, a preserved and wild nature... It's above all about plenitude and contemplation, trying each time to understand the beauty of the sceneries.
I am a former lawyer, also ski patroller specialized in nivology and meteorology. I cross the massif ski touring during the winter for my own pleasure.

Climbing with guide Guillaume was absolutely a highlight of my 2-week Europe vacation. Originally, we were planning on climbing in the Calanques, but the park was closed due to wind and fire danger. Guillaume chose another amazing location (Pic de Bretagne) based on my climbing abilities and preferences and kindly offered train station pick-up and hotel drop off, which I appreciated very much. The multi-pitch route we did was not only fun but also the right amount of challenge, which I thoroughly enjoyed. The communication from the team (Gauthier) was prompt and clear—highly recommend!

Luis Silva was a great climbing guide and belayer! He taught me how to do moves that were difficult and encouraged me to try routes that were challenging for me! Because of his encouragement, I managed to complete these routes! I really enjoyed the climbs and completed 8 routes in the Sesimbra/Azoia area. The weather was perfect, no direct sun and cool enough to enjoy the climbs. Explore-Share made booking an outdoor climbing experience in Lisbon extremely easy. Luis, our guide, was fantastic, and the platform’s organization was flawless.

We had Léo as a guide for our day climb in Fonty. We were blessed with a knowledgeable, warm, and instructive guide. Communication with Léo and Ivan was smooth and swift. Explore-Share was excellent in arranging everything for our day climb. The communication was quick, and the platform was easy to use, making our adventure stress-free.

Patrick was a great guide. He took us on an intermediate Via Ferrata at Passo Sella. Renato was quick to respond with any outreach on the Explore-Share platform. The booking process was straightforward, and once Patrick was confirmed, all went well. It was a wonderful experience, and I’d highly recommend the platform.
