Description

Cueto Agero is a classic Picos de Europa rock climbing spot. This day trip is your chance to head up one of its most popular routes, the Espolón Sur (South Spur). Join me on this stunning outdoor adventure!

Located in northern Spain, the Picos de Europa are part of the Cantabrian Mountains. They stretch 20km and encompass three major massifs: Central (“Los Urrieles”), Eastern (“Ándara”) and Western (“Picos de Cornión”). The area has some spectacular limestone crags with a large variety of climbing routes.

One of the highlights of the region is Cueto Agero, a large rock (1,016m) rising above the beautiful Hermida Gorge. On this day outing we will head up its most famous climbing route, Espolón Sur. Opened in 1973, this 540m climb has a 6a difficulty level. Get ready for a steep wall!

As for the itinerary, consider that the activity has a duration of 6-8 hours and starts at 8 am.

I did my first steps as a mountaineer as a teenager in Madrid. But the desire to enjoy all the possibilities given by the mountains convinced me to move to Benasque valley, at the heart of the Pyrenees.

Along the years I did several winter and summer activities not only in the Pyrenees, but also in Picos de Europa, Sierra Nevada, Sistema Central...

One of my passions is to travel and discover new places and cultures, so I did climbing trips to other European countries, USA, Canada, Morocco, India, Nepal, Kirguistán... This trips gave me a priceless experience that made me grow as a climber, and set the stone to my formation as professional mountain guide.

I now live in Cantabria, and usually guide both in summer and winter in the Cantabrian range.
