Finale Ligure is one of the most extensive and interesting climbing areas in Europe with thousands of climbing routes. We invite you to join us on this 4-day trip and discover this rock climbing paradise in the Italian Riviera.
In Finale Ligure not only will you enjoy great climbs, but also find unique landscapes, a beautiful sea, charming ancient villages and delicious food.
The climbing area is a limestone plateau which extends between the coast and the mountains. It’s about 10km wide and about 6/7km deep in the hinterland. The plateau is engraved by narrow valleys. Most of the cliffs are located on their sides.
Being close to the sea to the south and shielded by the mountain to the north, the climate is mild and climbing is possible all year round**. Slabs and vertical crags with pockets, holes, drips and notches** are the most common structures, but there are also many overhanging walls and caves.
Rock quality is always exceptional but climbing is challenging, mostly when climbing “on sight”. Our task is to choose the most beautiful and suitable crags for you and to ensure that your climbing holiday in Finale will be an unforgettable experience.
This 4-day program allows you to climb in different spots and to really appreciate this amazing climbing area. It is also a great opportunity to learn and improve your climbing technique and safety while climbing. The climbing activity lasts about 6 hours each day, excluding approach times.
On the first day, we will meet in Finalborgo, one of the three urban centers that form Finale Ligure. After an equipment check, we will transfer to our first climbing venue, in Boragni**,** a 20-minute drive. On the second day, we meet again in Finalborgo and head to Bric Grigio. The climbing spot is in Valle Aquila, a 10-minute drive and a 20-minute walk.
We will climb in Rian Cornei on the third day, and on the last day we will climb in the Grotta dell’Edera/Parete Dimenticata. You can check the day-by-day detailed program below.Â
Please note you need a medium fitness level to join this climbing trip. The program is suitable for all levels, from beginners with little or no experience to those who already climb to a medium or high level.
It is also posible to plan in advance a day off to rest, at the request of participants. Finale Ligure offers many alternative relaxing activities to fill the rest day, like beach, an interesting ethnographic museum, the Toirano and Verezzi caves, fantastic medieval villages and wonderful walks.
So what are you waiting for? Send us a request and book your trip! We will be happy to guide you on this unique climbing area in Italy! If you don’t have much time available, you could join us on our half-day rock climbing program in Finale Ligure.
At 9.00 am we meet in Finalborgo. Equipment check and transfer to Boragni (about 20- minute drive), a small and characteristic group of mediterranean houses which is a clear example of a fortified village. The Boragni Climbing area consists of a large wall and some detached pillars and boulders. The rock is excellent. Vertical slab climbing is the most common situation. More than 200 routes and a short access have made this spot one of the most popular in Finale. Here we will climb for about six hours and acquire familiarity with Finale climbing style.
We meet again in Finalborgo at 9.00 am and transfer to Bric Grigio. This climbing spot in Valle Aquila(a 10- minute drive and a 20-minute walk) is located just in the middle of the Finale Ligure climbing area. As many spots in Finale, it consists of different rock structures. The light grey limestone walls, which are renowned for their excellent rock quality, already attract climbers from the valley bottom. Many new routes were recently bolted in this spot.
We start again from Finalborgo at 9.00 am. The spot for today is Rian Cornei one of the most extensive, wild and hidden climbing areas in Finale Ligure. It’s a 2 km long valley sunken into the Finale plateau. About 20 different rock structures are spread on both sides. No roads, no houses. The only signs of human presence are some narrow paths, and the bolts on the crags. In Rian Cornei you can find almost any climbing style and wall facing.
This is our last meeting in Finalborgo at 9.00 am. The last day is dedicated to the Grotta dell’Edera and its surroundings. The beautiful and unique landscape of Urta Valley would be by itself a good reason to visit this spot. Here we can find a great number of incredible limestone structures where hundreds of routes have been equipped. It’s here where the Grotta dell’Edera is located. In this spot you can climb on the rock face and also behind it. You cannot come in Finale without visiting this awesome spot. On our return to Finale, before saying goodbye, we will have our last drink together.

Climbing with guide Guillaume was absolutely a highlight of my 2-week Europe vacation. Originally, we were planning on climbing in the Calanques, but the park was closed due to wind and fire danger. Guillaume chose another amazing location (Pic de Bretagne) based on my climbing abilities and preferences and kindly offered train station pick-up and hotel drop off, which I appreciated very much. The multi-pitch route we did was not only fun but also the right amount of challenge, which I thoroughly enjoyed. The communication from the team (Gauthier) was prompt and clear—highly recommend!

Luis Silva was a great climbing guide and belayer! He taught me how to do moves that were difficult and encouraged me to try routes that were challenging for me! Because of his encouragement, I managed to complete these routes! I really enjoyed the climbs and completed 8 routes in the Sesimbra/Azoia area. The weather was perfect, no direct sun and cool enough to enjoy the climbs. Explore-Share made booking an outdoor climbing experience in Lisbon extremely easy. Luis, our guide, was fantastic, and the platform’s organization was flawless.

Patrick was a great guide. He took us on an intermediate Via Ferrata at Passo Sella. Renato was quick to respond with any outreach on the Explore-Share platform. The booking process was straightforward, and once Patrick was confirmed, all went well. It was a wonderful experience, and I’d highly recommend the platform.
