Description

Welcome to a memorable 2-day Andean adventure through the famous Paso de la Nubes. A hiking trip for all levels of people!

This Paso de las Nubes Trek is a great option to discover some of the secret wonders that Patagonia has for you. In addition, it is a very flexible itinerary since we can leave from Pampa Linda to Frias Lake and Puerto Blest or in the opposite way.

During our 2-day expedition we will cross the famous Paso de Las Nubes (Clouds Pass in English). It is located at 1335 meters above sea level from where we can contemplate the most perfect panoramic view.

The Mount Tronador stands out with its imposing glacial landscape in the west. In the east we'll see the Cerro Constitución. The Frias Valley will be to the north and the Alerce Valley to the south. Everywhere you look, there will be something captivating your eyes.

At the end of this page you'll find more details about the day by day itinerary. Keep in mind that although it's not necessary any technical experience, you must have a good fitness level. We'll walk several hours per day.

And if you have some extra days in Bariloche let me also recommend this 5-day hike from Colonia Suiza to Pampa Linda. I have no doubts you'll fall in love with its forests and green valleys!

So, if you're planning to come to Patagonia do not hesitate to contact me. I can help you organize this fantastic trip to Paso de las Nubes!

Itinerary

Day 1: Pampa Linda - Paso de las Nubes - Agostino Rocca Hut

The trail begins in Pampa Linda. The first part is the same that people use to go to the Meiling Hut and the Castaño Overa viewpoint. After the first 3 km, we’ll cross the Castaño Overa River and continue walking until we are in a crossroad. At this point we must turn right to enter the Alerce Valley in direction to Paso de las Nubes. We will hike next to the Alerce River for a few hours until we cross it and reach a big forest of Coihues trees. From here begins a switchbacks ascent to the Paso de las nubes and the Agostino Rocca Hut. We’ll have rest and enjoy a excellent home made dinner at the hut. Distance: 12 km/Estimated time: 4-6 hours.

Day 2: Frias River - Puerto Blest- Puerto Pañuelo

We’ll descend through a path for about 300 meters. After crossing a rocky area we will enter inside the forest again. Now we’ll start walking on a trail that goes along the east bank of the Frias River. We’ll continue hiking for about 3 hours until we finally cross the river. We’ll continue for 1.5 km until we reach the southern shore of the Frias Lake. At this point we are next to one of the many borders between Argentina and Chile. Here we will need to take a boat to cross the lake. Finally a bus will connect us with the west cost of the Nahuel Huapi Lake in Puerto Blest, where a bigger boat will take us to Puerto Pañuelo in Bariloche City.

I worked several years in Europe as a ski patroller, and currently work as a teacher in the Argentinian Ski Patrollers School (EASP). I also worked as avalanche consultor in companies.

Last years, I’ve been working between ski stations and guiding in big and amazing mountains in Patagonia, Alaska, Bolivia and Peru. Climbing with guide Guillaume was absolutely a highlight of my 2-week Europe vacation. Originally, we were planning on climbing in the Calanques, but the park was closed due to wind and fire danger. Guillaume chose another amazing location (Pic de Bretagne) based on my climbing abilities and preferences and kindly offered train station pick-up and hotel drop off, which I appreciated very much. The multi-pitch route we did was not only fun but also the right amount of challenge, which I thoroughly enjoyed. The communication from the team (Gauthier) was prompt and clear—highly recommend!

Luis Silva was a great climbing guide and belayer! He taught me how to do moves that were difficult and encouraged me to try routes that were challenging for me! Because of his encouragement, I managed to complete these routes! I really enjoyed the climbs and completed 8 routes in the Sesimbra/Azoia area. The weather was perfect, no direct sun and cool enough to enjoy the climbs. Explore-Share made booking an outdoor climbing experience in Lisbon extremely easy. Luis, our guide, was fantastic, and the platform’s organization was flawless.

Patrick was a great guide. He took us on an intermediate Via Ferrata at Passo Sella. Renato was quick to respond with any outreach on the Explore-Share platform. The booking process was straightforward, and once Patrick was confirmed, all went well. It was a wonderful experience, and I’d highly recommend the platform.
