Description

Join me in this guided ascent to the impressive Olperer (3476 m), in the Zillertal Alps, in the state of Tyrol in Austria! This mountain is the main summit of the Tux Crest, also called Tuxer Hamm.

I will guide you safely to the summit and we will spend a great time. The starting points for the ascent is in Hintertux at the valley station of the glacier cable car. Equipment check and ascent with the gondola, where the actual tour starts at the mountain station of the Gefrorene Wand cable car.

This is a classic mountaineering tour, with a nice glacier hike combined with classic ridge climbing (up to grade III-) with a comfortable approach via cable car. First we have an easy traverse across the glacier to reach the Wildlahnerscharte (approximately 1 hour). Then, it proceeds over steep glacier ice to the North Ridge and along the ridge to the summit.

We will descent the same route, or do a traverse of the Olperer, depending on conditions.

The summit offers spectacular views! We will enjoy the sight of the surrounding peaks. Also, the sight of Brenner mountains.

Moreover, because of its prominenece over its nearby peaks, the Olperer is a popular viewing point. The panorama is amazing! The Hintertux Glacier, Grosser Möseler and the Hochfeiler will be just in front of us! Also, the Stubai and Ötztal Alps are just a stone’s throw away.
