Come to this 6-day ascent guided by a local certified mountain guide. Conquer the summit of the Nevado Artesonraju, one of the hardest peaks in the Cordillera Blanca.

6 Days

Jun - Aug

Description

Artesonraju, a 6025-meter mountain, is one of the 50 peaks of the famous Cordillera Blanca. It is a really iconic summit since it always stands out in the Paramount pictures introductions.

With its pyramidal shape and its always snow-capped summit, the Nevado Artesonraju lies in the middle between the Santa Cruz Massif and the Parón Gorge.

The total expedition, up and down, will take us between 8 and 12 hours. It is a very difficult ascent if we climb it through its southeast ridge. This route starts in the Parón Lake and requires advanced experience in ice climbing. The elevation gain is 800 meters with 45-55-degree slopes.

On the other hand, its normal route is less difficult although it is also a serious ascent. It runs through the north edge and starts in Santa Cruz. The altitude change of this trail is 700 meters with slopes between 50 and 80 degrees of inclination.

The best period to climb this peak is during de months of June, July and August. I can lead a group of no more than 12 participants. Remember that all of you must have some prior climbing experience as well as a good physical preparation.

And if you want to get well acclimatized before this goal, you can join me on my 3-day program up to the Maparaju summit.

So, contact me now and make your reservation. I will be a honor for me to be your guide in such an exciting expedition!

Itinerary

Day 1: Huaraz - Transfer to Cashapampa- Trekking to Llamacoral (3850 m)

From Huaraz transfer drive to the village of Cashapampa via the Santa River Valley. Then, we’ll start the trekking in Santa Cruz, where we’ll meet our local team and the donkeys. Trek up to Llamacoral campsite (-/L/D).

Day 2: Llamacoral - Trekking to Artesonraju/Taullipampa Base Camp (4250 m)

From Llamacoral we will hike to Arhuaycocha (4300 m) with amazing views of the Alpamayo, Artesnoraju and Taulliraju peaks. We’ll spend the night at the Base Camp of Artesonraju (B/L/D).

Day 3: Base Camp - Climb to Artesonraju Moraine Camp (5000 m)

Today we will need the help of our porters as we move to the Artesonraju Moraine Camp. They will carry your personal equipment because the steep nature of the moraine makes the climb more demanding. We will walk for 4-5 hours along the moraine crest until we are finally at the Artesonraju Moraine Camp (B/L/D).

Day 4: Artesonraju Moraine Camp - Summit Artesonraju (6025 m) - Descend to Moraine Camp (5000 m) or Taullipampa Base Camp (4250 m)

Summit day! The route we are climbing today is the North Ridge via the northeast spur. We will climb steep slopes to the left of the ridge, avoiding the crevasses. The weather conditions at this altitude vary from one year to the other. The ascent takes approximately 8-9 hours. Once at the summit you will be rewarded with a magnificent view of the Cordillera Blanca and all its peaks. After a brief rest and some pictures, we will return to the Moraine Camp via rappel. The descent will take about 3-4 hours. If participants are tired, we can stay another night at the Moraine Camp. If everyone feels fine, we usually drop down to the Artesonraju Base Camp (B/L/D).

Day 5: Extra day

It is a reserve day. We can rest in the Taullipampa Base Camp (4250 m) or descent to the Taullipampa Moraine Base Camp (B/L/D).

Day 6: Taullipampa Base Camp - Trekking descent to Cashapampa - Transfer to Huaraz

Today we will wake up early to start our hike down through the Santa Cruz Valley in direction to Cashapampa (about 6 hours.) In Cashapampa our minibus awaits to take us back to Huaraz. Overnight stay in the hotel.

What people are saying about Explore-Share

Man

Climbing with guide Guillaume was absolutely a highlight of my 2-week Europe vacation. Originally, we were planning on climbing in the Calanques, but the park was closed due to wind and fire danger. Guillaume chose another amazing location (Pic de Bretagne) based on my climbing abilities and preferences and kindly offered train station pick-up and hotel drop off, which I appreciated very much. The multi-pitch route we did was not only fun but also the right amount of challenge, which I thoroughly enjoyed. The communication from the team (Gauthier) was prompt and clear—highly recommend!

Maxine

Luis Silva was a great climbing guide and belayer! He taught me how to do moves that were difficult and encouraged me to try routes that were challenging for me! Because of his encouragement, I managed to complete these routes! I really enjoyed the climbs and completed 8 routes in the Sesimbra/Azoia area. The weather was perfect, no direct sun and cool enough to enjoy the climbs. Explore-Share made booking an outdoor climbing experience in Lisbon extremely easy. Luis, our guide, was fantastic, and the platform’s organization was flawless.

Valeriya

You’re simply the best!!! :))) Explore-Share made everything easy and stress-free. Will definitely use again.

Joshua

We had Léo as a guide for our day climb in Fonty. We were blessed with a knowledgeable, warm, and instructive guide. Communication with Léo and Ivan was smooth and swift. Explore-Share was excellent in arranging everything for our day climb. The communication was quick, and the platform was easy to use, making our adventure stress-free.

Cami

Patrick was a great guide. He took us on an intermediate Via Ferrata at Passo Sella. Renato was quick to respond with any outreach on the Explore-Share platform. The booking process was straightforward, and once Patrick was confirmed, all went well. It was a wonderful experience, and I’d highly recommend the platform.
