Description

This multi-day hut to hut trek I will lead you on through Triglav National Park in Slovenia entails some of the most astonishing and beautiful natural scenery in all of Europe, as we spend our days admiring the majestic lakes, gorges, stream, waterfalls and valleys, standing in awe of the Julian Alps (including Mt Triglav, Slovenia’s highest), exploring historical World War One battle sites and seeking out the exotic and unique flora and fauna that abounds.

Triglav National Park lies in the Northwestern part of the country, and is Slovenia’s only national park, and thus an extremely popular tourist destination. It makes up approximately 4% of the countries landmass, and its landscape and terrain are dominated by the towering Julian Alps.

We can start the trip at a multitude of locations on the edge of the National Park, and over the course of the trip there are several highlights that we always aim to get to.

Some of these include the alluring and emerald green River Soca, which we can refreshingly swim in during warmer months, the gorgeous Valley of the Seven Lakes that stretches out over the karst terrain, and the Southwestern region of the park, where remnants of World War One battles remain with fortresses and weapons still visible.

For those indulging in a multi-day trip, we will be staying in quaint and cute mountain huts and cottages during the night, and to provide a good base to start each day.

The variety of flowers we can see during summer and spring is a special sight to behold, and there is also a huge diversity in the animals we will come across, with gams, roe deer, wild goat, foxes and rabbits calling the park home.

We will finish the activity hopefully having made you want to come back and explore even more of this special part of the world.

Exploring Triglav National Park will blow you away and make you come back for more – book now to experience!

Mountain Leader

I live in Mojstrana, the main starting point for climbing Mount Triglav, the highest peak in the Julian Alps.

I started climbing when I was in Elementary School. I did my first climbing expedition before turning 16 years old: we climbed in the Lofoten Island in Norway. And I was hooked!

I later entered the Mountain Rescue Service very young and saw the mountains from a less friendly point of view. Since then, I have visited many interesting mountains around the world but for me, apart from the Julian Alps, the most beautiful mountains are the Nepalese Himalayas.

I organized the first trekking there 25 years ago and now I visit Nepal and the Himalayas at least twice a year. I have been fully engaged in the training of Slovenian mountain leaders there.

As part of the Mountain Safety team, I have been dealing with avalanches and avalanche rescue for the past 20 years. I am a certified UIMLA leader and the President of the Association of Mountain Leaders of Slovenia, where I am also a trainer/instructor.

My specialties are the lesser known paths in the Julian Alps (Triglav National Park), several days trekking across the Julian Alps (hut to hut), trekking in various Balkan countries (Bosnia, Montenegro, Bulgaria, Romania) and of course trekking in the Nepalese Himalayas.

Climbing with guide Guillaume was absolutely a highlight of my 2-week Europe vacation. Originally, we were planning on climbing in the Calanques, but the park was closed due to wind and fire danger. Guillaume chose another amazing location (Pic de Bretagne) based on my climbing abilities and preferences and kindly offered train station pick-up and hotel drop off, which I appreciated very much. The multi-pitch route we did was not only fun but also the right amount of challenge, which I thoroughly enjoyed. The communication from the team (Gauthier) was prompt and clear—highly recommend!

Luis Silva was a great climbing guide and belayer! He taught me how to do moves that were difficult and encouraged me to try routes that were challenging for me! Because of his encouragement, I managed to complete these routes! I really enjoyed the climbs and completed 8 routes in the Sesimbra/Azoia area. The weather was perfect, no direct sun and cool enough to enjoy the climbs. Explore-Share made booking an outdoor climbing experience in Lisbon extremely easy. Luis, our guide, was fantastic, and the platform’s organization was flawless.

Patrick was a great guide. He took us on an intermediate Via Ferrata at Passo Sella. Renato was quick to respond with any outreach on the Explore-Share platform. The booking process was straightforward, and once Patrick was confirmed, all went well. It was a wonderful experience, and I’d highly recommend the platform.
