Description

An outdoor family adventure is a great way to create unforgettable memories with the kids and learn about nature, teamwork, and facing fears, all while having fun! On this 4-day program, I have designed a flexible itinerary for families to enjoy via ferrata, rock climbing, and hiking near Lake Garda!

The flexible itinerary that I propose will allow us to tailor the adventure to suit your family’s preferences and needs. Some of the activities may be optional so that if someone is tired they can stay at the hut while the rest participate. Furthermore, going with a guide will allow you to join in on the fun instead of having to worry about safety and logistics.

The via ferratas we can visit on this program include:

  • Rio Sallogoni ferrata: this charming ferrata route that ends in the magnificent Castle of Drena includes passing through a beautiful canyon with little waterfalls and a mystic gorge that leads to a Tibetan cable bridge.

  • Via ferrata Cima Capi: an easy-going ferrata that everyone can enjoy with an optional add on to visit some WWI tunnels.

  • Via ferrata Colodri: this renowned ferrata goes up the well known Arco rock walls to the top of Mt. Colodri and is ideal for beginners and families. Once at the top you will be surprised by the amazing views overlooking Lake Garda. The descent goes through olive groves and passes an old Way of the Cross.

We can also choose to hike from Le Viote del Bondone to Monte Stivo. The “Ridge Trail” is another hiking trail we can explore. It starts from Pregasina, just above Riva del Garda, and boasts stunning views of the lake.  And, for those that like a little bit more of a challenge, we can head to the Smugglers trail (sentiero dei contrabbandieri), a suspended and amazing ledge that overlooks the lake. Furthermore, there are several rock climbing spots we will visit where we will learn all about safety, knots, rappelling, and climbing techniques. You can find a tentative itinerary below. To get an idea of what it would be like, you can read about one family’s experience on a similar multi-adventure program in the Dolomites.

If the weather is bad, we can go to the natural science museum in Trento (40 minutes from Riva del Garda) and go climbing in the climbing hall nearby Sambapolis in the afternoon. Another option is to head to Lake Ledro and visit the village and museum there, a unique place to learn about the history of human settlement in the Ledro valley.

Keep in mind that all levels are welcome, as are young children. If you have any doubts, please don’t hesitate to contact me about them. In terms of accommodation, during the summer months, when the huts are open, the ideal scenario is to stay one night at a mountain hut and the rest of the time in the valley. I recommend the following agriturismos:

So, are you ready to create unforgettable memories with your family on a multi-day adventure near Lake Garda? Then contact me now. I will be happy to help you plan an outdoor family holiday that you will never forget!

Or, if you prefer, you can join me on a multi-adventure family program in the Dolomites, which offers some amazing options too.

Itinerary

Day 1: Via Ferrata and Hiking

Option 1: Enjoy a short and easy via ferrata in the morning–> via ferrata Rio Sallagoni and hike for two/three hours to reach the hut in the afternoon.

Option 2: Hike for 7 hours to reach the Monte Stivo hut from Le Viote del Bondone.

If Rifugio Altissimo is open, there is a really nice and historical loop to hike there which can be included in the program.

Day 2: Rock climbing basics

A nice hike from the hut will take us to the perfect spot to practice some monopitch rock climbing, and to learn safety, knots, rappelling, and climbing techniques.

Day 3: Via Ferrata Cima Capi

One of the Garda Trentino favorites! We will head to the famous via ferrata Cima Capi with the choice of extending the excursion and visiting the WW1 tunnels.

Day 4: Ridge Trail hike/ Via Ferrata Colodri

Option 1: Hike on the “ridge trail”  4 to 5 hrs, 500 meters up.  Enjoy amazing views of Lake Garda.

Option 2: climbing the easy via ferrata Colodri to reach the Muro dell’Asino climbing wall. Once there, we can enjoy some optional sports climbing or return via a hidden path.

Day 4: Optional more advanced day 4 alternative: The Smugglers trail

The Smugglers trail (sentiero dei contrabbandieri), is a suspended and amazing ledge on the lake. It is not difficult but not suggested for people afraid of heights. A sheer drop over the lake, a path cut out from the rock, which every so often disappears and requires some short but exciting climbing, will impress you with its wild beauty. It proceeds almost horizontally, offering unexpected and vertiginous overhangs above the lake. As the route is not equipped it is only suitable for experienced climbers or else requires a Guide. You reach it along the legendary Ponale road.

You can also include this option on an added 5th day if you would like to extend your adventure.

Duration: 4 hrs (to come back we have to take a take for a short drive, 5/10 minutes)

Equipment you will need to bring

Technical equipment is included. Participants will need to bring a waterproof jacket, suitable shoes with Vibram sole (no sneakers), half finger gloves and hiking clothes.

Mountain Guide

I was born in Bozen and I have been living all my life long in Fassa Valley, Dolomites. That's why my native language is ladin, a reto-romanic language spoken around Sella.

My big passion besides traveling is mountains and guiding because I love to show the people the beauty of the mountains.

I was a member of the Italian National Alpine Ski from 1990 to 1997 when I became Ski Instructor. In 2009

I became an IFMAG Mountain guide. I guide in the Dolomites, Sarca valley, Sizialian vulcanoes, Ortles Cevedale area, and Sardinia.

Climbing with guide Guillaume was absolutely a highlight of my 2-week Europe vacation. Originally, we were planning on climbing in the Calanques, but the park was closed due to wind and fire danger. Guillaume chose another amazing location (Pic de Bretagne) based on my climbing abilities and preferences and kindly offered train station pick-up and hotel drop off, which I appreciated very much. The multi-pitch route we did was not only fun but also the right amount of challenge, which I thoroughly enjoyed. The communication from the team (Gauthier) was prompt and clear—highly recommend!

Luis Silva was a great climbing guide and belayer! He taught me how to do moves that were difficult and encouraged me to try routes that were challenging for me! Because of his encouragement, I managed to complete these routes! I really enjoyed the climbs and completed 8 routes in the Sesimbra/Azoia area. The weather was perfect, no direct sun and cool enough to enjoy the climbs. Explore-Share made booking an outdoor climbing experience in Lisbon extremely easy. Luis, our guide, was fantastic, and the platform’s organization was flawless.

Patrick was a great guide. He took us on an intermediate Via Ferrata at Passo Sella. Renato was quick to respond with any outreach on the Explore-Share platform. The booking process was straightforward, and once Patrick was confirmed, all went well. It was a wonderful experience, and I’d highly recommend the platform.
