Description

It is an amazing thing when an inexperienced climber can scale one of the highest mountains in not only an entire country, but an entire mountain range. And on this trip, that is exactly the kind of experience I’m offering to lead you on. The mountain is Triglav (2,864m) and it is the highest peak in Slovenia and the Julian Alps mountain range. And the Slovenian route, which is the route we will be taking on this trip, is an undemanding path that leads right to the top of the peak.

Beginning in the Aljazev dom chalet in the Vrata valley, we will spend the next 1.5 hours making our way along the Prag route to the foot of the mountain’s face. Afterwards, we will climb for another 1.5 to 3 hours to the Triglav summit. For the descent, we will spend approximately 3 hours following the same path taken on the ascent back down to the Vrata valley.

The Slovenian route covers approximately 800 metres and presents a grade 1 to 2 level climb. And while the route is not very demanding, there are some tough spots. But rest assured when we reach those spots, I will make sure you are properly and safely guided through them.

The views during the climb, and especially from the mountain’s summit, are absolutely stunning. And I have no doubt you will remember them, and celebrate them, long after you’ve returned home.

So if are just beginning your mountain climbing career, and are looking for a great peak to start with, then send me a request and join me to the top of Mount Triglav via the Slovenian route. I know you will have a great time.

I also lead this 2 day climb to the summit of Mount Triglav from the beautiful Krma valley as well.

Mountain Guide

I was born in Kranj (Slovenia), and since I was a child the mountains have been my passion. I graduated in Sports at Ljubljana University and started an alpine career as a member of the Kranj Alpine Club.

In 1977, I climbed my first eight-thousander: it was a new route on Gasherbrum I. Some years later, a partner and I became the first Slovenians to ascend Mt Everest, also on a new route.

In fact, I’ve been at the top of Everest twice. The second time, I reached the summit with my wife Marija, and we were the first married couple achieving that.

Throughout my alpine career, I took part and even lead more than 20 expeditions in the Nepalese Himalayas. There, I climbed more than six peaks over eight thousand meters: two of them on new routes and three using pure alpine style. I also climbed in Patagonia, Pamir, USA, Caucasus and Scotland.

However, my major success was climbing a new route on Kangchenjunga, in alpine style and together with climber Marko Prezelj. After this, we won the prestigious mountaineering award Piolet d’Or.

I am a mountain guide since 1982 and I obtained my IFMGA license in 1997. I am also an instructor at the Slovenian Mountain Guide Association (SMGA).

I still live in Kranj with my wife and the youngest of our three children.

Climbing with guide Guillaume was absolutely a highlight of my 2-week Europe vacation. Originally, we were planning on climbing in the Calanques, but the park was closed due to wind and fire danger. Guillaume chose another amazing location (Pic de Bretagne) based on my climbing abilities and preferences and kindly offered train station pick-up and hotel drop off, which I appreciated very much. The multi-pitch route we did was not only fun but also the right amount of challenge, which I thoroughly enjoyed. The communication from the team (Gauthier) was prompt and clear—highly recommend!

Luis Silva was a great climbing guide and belayer! He taught me how to do moves that were difficult and encouraged me to try routes that were challenging for me! Because of his encouragement, I managed to complete these routes! I really enjoyed the climbs and completed 8 routes in the Sesimbra/Azoia area. The weather was perfect, no direct sun and cool enough to enjoy the climbs. Explore-Share made booking an outdoor climbing experience in Lisbon extremely easy. Luis, our guide, was fantastic, and the platform’s organization was flawless.

Patrick was a great guide. He took us on an intermediate Via Ferrata at Passo Sella. Renato was quick to respond with any outreach on the Explore-Share platform. The booking process was straightforward, and once Patrick was confirmed, all went well. It was a wonderful experience, and I’d highly recommend the platform.
