Description

If you want to spend a fun day in the mountains of North Japan Alps and then return to your normal life or continue with your vacation, this is a good option.

I am happy to invite you to this splitboarding day tour in Mt Norikura, one of Japan’s top 100 peaks situated near Kamikochi, just in the middle of Gifu and Nagano Prefectures. Some of the reasons why Mt Norikura is a popular peak are its easy access and the scenic views from its 3026-meter summit. In clear days we can even see a panoramic setting of the Japanese Alps!

As for the itinerary of the day we will first go to Kuraigahara (2,350m) by bus. Once there I’ll make sure we can ski in a lonely, unspoiled area so you can enjoy high grade granulate snow, one of the main features of Japanese mountains. After several hours making turns and having a really great splitboarding time, we will ski down to Sanbon-taki. It is one of the most majestic waterfalls in Japan. We’ll be returning to our starting point at around 4 pm.

Although participants won’t need an advanced technical level it’s very important to have a good physical shape to endure a long hike-up. In addition, some experience in hiking with skins or snowshoes is a plus.

More info

For groups of more than 5 people, I will bring a colleague so we have 2 guides in a group. As for the equipment needed: ski gear (skis, splitboard, snowboard), skins, snowshoes, boots, crampons (with more than 10 points), sunglasses, goggles, gloves, ski clothing, avalanche safety gear (beacon, probe, shovel).-

You can purchase tour photos at the end, which costs JPY5,000 per person for all data and JPY700 if you only want one piece of photo data.

Mountain Guide

I am a backcountry ski guide with JMGA hiking level 2 and ski / snowboard guide level 2 certifications, based in Hakuba.
I was born in Aichi prefecture in Japan and started snowboarding in my early teens. Before I knew it, I was snowboarding everyday in the winter and in my final year of high school, I moved to Iwate prefecture in Tohoku (northern tip of Honshu, known for big snow falls) to freeride everyday. I became a professional snowboarder, and since 2002, I have been a ski / snowboard guide based in Hakuba.

I wanted to share the experience and fun I have had in the mountains with many other people in a safe manner with the right education and so I started my own backcountry guide company in 2012.

Myself and all the other guides at my guide company are on splitboards and so we welcome snowboarders and skiers alike. Given my snowboarding background, I know how difficult it could be for a snowboarder to follow a skier's line!!

I'm also trained and certified by Japan Avalanche Network and Wilderness First Aid, and am a member of Japan Emergency Rescue Team.

When I'm unavailable the guides at my guide company that I trust, with sufficient Avalanche training, Wilderness First Aid as well as much guiding experience at my guide company (some with JMGA certification as well) will be able to guide you.
