Description

Looking for an exhilarating program where you can improve your skills and discover beautiful mountains? Then this 1-week course in Tyrol is perfect for you.

The purpose of this program is for you to acquire all the necessary knowledge and tools to enjoy mountaineering in glaciated summits with safety. The contents of the course include the use of the equipment, knots, crevasse rescue, belaying skills and route planning, among others. All of these abilities will be very useful for your future snow and ice climbs.

Apart from learning and practicing, this 1-week program offers you the chance to climb very important mountains in Tyrol, such as the Wildspitze. At 3772 meters, it’s the highest mountain in the Eastern Rhaetian Alps and the second in Austria.

As for the itinerary, we’ll meet in Füssen im Allgäu, in Germany, at 5 pm have a short briefing and prepare the equipment. Please, take a look at the bottom of the page for a more detailed description.

Regarding the requirements, keep in mind that you should have prior hiking experience and a very good level of fitness. You should be able to face an elevation gain of 1,300 meters per day. However, it’s not mandatory to have prior rock and ice experience.

Price details

Not included: flights, insurance, transportation to the start of the trip, mountaineering shoes, accommodation and half-board, gear transport.

2 nights + half-board in a hotel in Füssen Germany (68 €).

5 nights in an alpine hut + half-board (60 € for alpine club member).

Itinerary

Day 1: Welcome

We’ll meet at 5 pm in Füssen im Allgäu. After a briefing, we’ll have dinner and begin practicing knots.

Day 2: Mittelberg - Taschachhaus

On day 2, we’ll drive to Mittelberg and begin a 2-3 hour hike to the Taschachhaus, situated at 2,440 meters above sea level. Then, we’ll do the check-in in the hut and start with our training.

Day 3: Taschachhaus

After breakfast, we’ll practice walking on ice and snow and I’ll teach you about the use of the equipment. Later, we’ll plan the route for the following day.

Day 4: Sexegerten Spitze

Day 4 will be the day of our first summit: the Sexegerten Spitze. The mountain is located at an altitude of 3,400 meters and we’ll face an elevation gain of around 1,000 meters (5-6 hours).

Day 5: Keep learning and practicing

On this day, we’ll focus on anchor and rescue systems, both essential mountaineering skills.

Day 6: Wildspitze

We’ll begin very early, at 4 am, because we’ll go for a 10-hour climb to the highest mountain in Tyrol. On this climb, we’ll face an elevation gain of 1,200 meters. The summit will allow us to contemplate astonishing views. Finally, we’ll celebrate our achievement with a nice dinner in the hut.
