Description

I invite you to a winter climbing trip to the highest peak in Slovenia: Mount Triglav, at 2864 m.

Inside a beautiful national park in the Julian Alps, Triglav can be climbed all year round. This time, I propose an exciting winter ascent, starting from the Krma valley.

Just below the top of Mt Triglav there's a mountain hut: Triglavski dom. This place is a great destination for ski touring, so this program may be interesting for skiers as well.

Triglav in winter is a technical mountain. The ground is exposed and we'll be climbing snow slopes up to 50°. The climb is done with crampons on our feet and one ice axe.During the winter conditions may change a lot. We usually don't have via ferrata to reach the top of the mountain as we do in other seasons. Maybe in early January, some cable might still be out of the snow, making the climb a bit easier. But it might be covered with snow completely. If you are in an exceptional physical condition (level 5, from 1 to 5), you can climb this peak in just one day. However, 2 days is the recommended length for this trip. Remember that in winter we often have to do more than 2000 vertical meters to get to the top, so to do it in a short winter day you really have to be super fit.

The hut is available during winter (actually it works all year long), although the rooms are not heated.

As regards the necessary gear, at the bottom of this description you can find a list of the recommended equipment you should bring. Please remember that high hiking boots and warm clothing are essential for the winter ascent of Mt Triglav. During the ascent, you will also need to use crampons and ice axe but I will provide them.

You can also check the summer program I offer to the summit of Slovenia. And please contact me if you want to join me for this winter adventure in Mount Triglav. I will be happy to take you there!

I am a UIAGM mountain guide, ski instructor and sports teacher and the current president of the Slovenian Mountain Guide Association.

I am still the only guide who can make a living working exclusively in Slovenia. I climb Triglav more than 25 times per year, which means I have climbed the most famous peak in my country over 200 times.

If you want to climb or ski in Slovenian mountains I am the right choice. I guide via ferrata, rock climbing, snow climbing, ice climbing, hikes, heliski, freeride skiing and ski touring.

Slovenia has good options for all of these activities, so you are welcome to take a look at my trips and find something for yourself. If you don't find anything let me know and I will see if I can help you!

I speak English. Ich sprache auch ein bischen Deutsch. Parla anche un pocho Italiano e abla tambien un po Espanol.

If I am not available to guide you, one of the super experienced guides in my team - Rok, Peter, Grega or Igor - will be your guide.
