Description

The Matterhorn is one of the most famous mountains in the Alps. It's a pyramidal-shaped peak standing at 4478 meters in height.

Every approaching route to the Matterhorn is a challenging one. So, no matter the way you choose, it won't be easy. It's super important to have a good fitness condition and some prior mountaineering experience.

That's why we will go first on a preparation climb to Breithorn on day 1, before attempting Matterhorn. This will allow you to get acclimatized, and practice togehter with me the skills and techniques we will need for Matterhorn.

Our starting point will be Zermatt. On day 1 we will go to Breithorn ridge, and back to Zermatt. On day 2 we will take the cable car to the Black Lake and continue on foot for 2 hours until we reach the Hörnli hut. The following day we'll start with an early breakfast at 4 AM. After a 10 minute walk, we will arrive to our trailhead to begin the ascent via the Hornli ridge.

FAQs

When is the best time for ascending Matterhorn?

The climbing season for Matterhorn begins around July 1st with the opening of the hut. Typically, the most favorable conditions are from mid-July to early September.

How can I get to Zermatt by car or plane?

If you're driving, you'll need to park in Täsch, which is approximately 5 kilometers (3 miles) from Zermatt. From Täsch, you can take a train (departing every 15 minutes) or a taxi to reach the village.

If you're flying, you'll most likely arrive at either Geneva or Zurich airports. From there, you can take a train that typically takes 3 to 4 hours to reach Zermatt.

What additional expenses will I have to pay during the toure?

The payment you make here covers my guiding fee.

Beyond that, you'l have to pay on site the mountain hut accommodation on Matterhorn (approximately 150 CHF per person) and lift fees.

Should you need equipment rental, shops in Zermatt offer convenient options.

What level of experience, skill, and fitness is required for this trip and to maximize the chances of reaching the Matterhorn summit?

Opting for the 3-day option, which includes a preparation and assessment climb on Breithorn, is highly recommended to enhance the likelihood of summiting Matterhorn. This allows for the evaluation of your climbing abilities and the opportunity to practice various techniques together before embarking on the Matterhorn ascent.

While climbing Matterhorn is renowned as one of the quintessential adventures in the Alps, it's important to acknowledge its demanding nature as an alpine tour. Successfully reaching the summit necessitates adequate acclimatization, training, and endurance. Spending several days in Zermatt or nearby huts at an elevation of 3000 meters beforehand is essential for effective acclimatization.

What is the maximum number of climbers you can take for a Matterhorn ascent?

The guide-client ratio for Matterhorn climbs is strictly 1:1, meaning one mountain guide can guide only one client during the ascent.

If you're intending to climb with someone else, I can liaise with a colleague and check the possibility of arranging an additional guide to accommodate both of you.

What's the required equipment I have to bring for the Matterhorn ascent?

Necessary gear comprises basic mountaineering and climbing equipment, such as mountaineering boots, ice axe, crampons, helmet, harness, and more. These items are available for rental at various shops in Zermatt. Following your booking, I will provide you with a detailed gear list.

With how much anticipation I need to book the Matterhorn ascent?

It is advisable to secure your booking as soon as possible. Due to high demand for Matterhorn climbs during the summer season, my availability is limited, and slots tend to fill up quickly.

Aspirant Guide

Mountains have been a part of my life since childhood. I started doing more serious mountaineering expeditions at the end of high school after successfully completing all levels of mountain climbing courses. In the last 10 years, I have been at least on one expedition every year. I climbed in Argentina, Peru, Bolivia, the USA, Scotland, Slovakia, the Czech Republic, France, Swiss, Italy, Japan, Pakistan, Tibet and Nepal.

In 2021, I completed my training as a mountaineering guide – trainee and I’m working on becoming a full member of the IFMGA family soon.

I enjoy climbing both Slovenian and foreign mountains.

Some of my most unforgettable and also the most successful routes:

Tsoboje - Slovenian direct (2021)
Kang Ri - East pillar (2013)
Janak - Blue racer (2012)
K7 West - The dreamers of the golden caves (2011)

The route I climbed on K7 West was rewarded with Piolet d’or recognition for mountaineering achievements in the world.

If you want to climb the north face of Triglav (Slovenia’s highest mountain) or any other walls in Slovenia, please contact me. I also enjoy guiding ski trails in winter in the Julian Alps.

Climbing with guide Guillaume was absolutely a highlight of my 2-week Europe vacation. Originally, we were planning on climbing in the Calanques, but the park was closed due to wind and fire danger. Guillaume chose another amazing location (Pic de Bretagne) based on my climbing abilities and preferences and kindly offered train station pick-up and hotel drop off, which I appreciated very much. The multi-pitch route we did was not only fun but also the right amount of challenge, which I thoroughly enjoyed. The communication from the team (Gauthier) was prompt and clear—highly recommend!

Luis Silva was a great climbing guide and belayer! He taught me how to do moves that were difficult and encouraged me to try routes that were challenging for me! Because of his encouragement, I managed to complete these routes! I really enjoyed the climbs and completed 8 routes in the Sesimbra/Azoia area. The weather was perfect, no direct sun and cool enough to enjoy the climbs. Explore-Share made booking an outdoor climbing experience in Lisbon extremely easy. Luis, our guide, was fantastic, and the platform’s organization was flawless.

Explore-Share was excellent in arranging everything for our day climb. The communication was quick, and the platform was easy to use, making our adventure stress-free.

Patrick was a great guide. He took us on an intermediate Via Ferrata at Passo Sella. Renato was quick to respond with any outreach on the Explore-Share platform. The booking process was straightforward, and once Patrick was confirmed, all went well. It was a wonderful experience, and I’d highly recommend the platform.
