Description

Would you like to take part of a fantastic experience in the mountain? If you love mountaineering and have prior experience, you can’t miss this chance to get to the top of Marmolejo, in the Andes.

Located on the border between Argentina and Chile, Marmolejo is a mountain in the Andes that reaches 6,108 meters of altitude. Famous for its fantastic glacier, the stratovolcano is the southernmost 6,000-meter peak in the world.

The starting point of this mountaineering adventure will be Santiago de Chile. We’ll meet in the city at 7 am and drive in the direction of Cajón del Maipo. Then, on the following days, we’ll approach different camps to get to the summit of the mountain.

One of the distinctive characteristics of this volcano is its glacier on the top. To reach the summit, we must cross the glacier and face a long ascent. Although challenging, the results will be absolutely rewarding. From the summit, we’ll be able to contemplate a breathtaking panoramic view of the surrounding valleys and mountains.

As an experienced guide, I’ll accompany you during the whole experience and provide you with useful information and advice. Safety will always be first on our schedule! As for the requirements, keep in mind that this ascent is for experienced mountaineers with an excellent level of fitness.

Itinerary

Day 1: Santiago de Chile - Base Camp

We’ll depart from Santiago at 7 am. to Cajon del Maipo and start our hike to the Base Camp (3,700 meters) at 10 am.

Duration: 3-4 hours.

Day 2: Base Camp - Camp I

After breakfast at 7 am., we’ll move our camp to Camp I, situated at 4,300 meters above sea level.

Duration: 4 hours.

Day 3: Camp I - Camp II

On day 3, we’ll begin at 8 am. and move the camp to our Camp II, Campo Alto, at 4,900 meters of altitude.

Duration: 5 hours.

Day 4: Summit Day

Long and cold day across the glacier and to the top of the volcano. It will take us around 8 hours to get to the top, according to weather conditions. The descent has a duration of around 6 hours. We’ll start at midnight to take advantage of the good conditions during the night.

Day 5: Last Day

Around 9 am, we’ll start walking in the direction of our vehicle and end our program.

Duration: 6 hours.
