Description

This 16-day trekking tour around the Langtang area, via the Ganja la Pass (5,122 m), is a great way to discover Nepal and its natural wonders. The itinerary is completed with visits to different Tibetan villages, making it a perfect opportunity to learn about the local culture and religious traditions.

To begin this program, we will meet you at the Kathmandu Tribhuvan International Airport. Next day, we will tour around Kathmandu’s World Heritage Sites, as well as get ready for the itinerary ahead.

The trekking itinerary begins at Sybru Bensi and concludes in Melamchi Bazaar. In between, we will visit different Tibetan and Sherpa villages like Kyangjin Gompa (3,800 m), Ngegang (4,520 m), Sermathang (2,620 m) and Melamchi Pul (850 m).

One of the key highlights of this itinerary is the views of the Langtang valley and the peaks in the Langtang range from the beautiful Tserko Ri (5,00o m). Some of the peaks you will have unique views of from here are Dorje Larpa (6,990m), Langtang Ri (6,370m), Langtang Lirung (7,245m) and Yala Peak (5,520m).

Along the itinerary, we will spend the nights in guesthouses and lodges in these traditional villages.

Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival in Kathmandu

  • Arrival in Kathmandu Tribhuvan International Airport

  • Transfer to the hotel

  • Briefing on the itinerary

  • Overnight at Hotel B/B

Day 2: Kathmandu

  • Sightseeing around Kathmandu – World Heritage Sites like the Durbar Square, the sacred Hindu temple of Pashupati Nath, the famous ‘Monkey Temple’ Swayambhu Nath, and the Bouddha Nath Buddhist shrine

  • Optional: last minute shopping of personal items in preparation for next day

  • Overnight at Hotel B/B

Day 3: Kathmandu - Syabru Besi

  • Drive along the north-western hills of Kathmandu – views of the mountainous lifestyle, terraced fields and rustic villages

  • Lunch at the Trishuli Bazar

  • Drive to Dhunche

  • Descent to Syabru Besi

  • Overnight at Hotel

  • Driving time: 8 hours

Day 4: Syabru Besi Trek to Lama Hotel

  • Cross over to the bank of the Langtang river to begin the trekking experience

  • Spotting wildlife such as local monkeys, wild boar and if we are lucky the Himalayan black bear or the endangered red panda

  • Trek aling the river bank

  • Gentle ascent to the reach Lama hotel (2,748 m) on the bank of the river

  • Overnight at Lodge

Day 5: Lama Hotel - Langtang Village

  • Trek from Lama Hotel to the green meadows of Ghora Tabela – view of the Langtang snowy peaks

  • Arrival in the Langtang village (3,500 m), with Tibetan houses and a quaint charm, and house of the Langtang National Park

  • Arrival in guesthouse

  • Visit around the village and to the local yak cheese factory

  • Overnight at Lodge

Day 6: Langtang Village - Kyangjin Gompa

  • Early start

  • Trek across tiny ethnic Tibetan villages

  • Arrival in Kyangjin Gompa (3,800 m), with a monastery, a government run cheese factory and a few houses and lodges

  • Views of the Langtang valley and peaks on the Langtang Range: Dorje Larpa (6,990m), Langtang Ri (6,370m), Langtang Lirung (7,245m) and Yala Peak (5,520m)

  • Overnight at Lodge

Day 7: Kyangjin Gompa / Tserko Ri

  • Options for this day:

    • Rest

    • Visit the nearby monastery and cheese factory

    • Climb Tserko Ri (5,033 m), a steep climb from Kyangjin Gompa. Takes around 2 hours. It provides unique views of the surrounding peaks. It is the pinnacle of the Langtang trek, energy permitting

  • Overnight at Lodge

Day 8: Kyangin Gompa - Ngegang

  • Trek from Kyangin Gompa to Ngegang (4,520m)

  • Trekking time: 7 hours

Day 9: Ngegang - Ganja la Pass - Keldang

  • Trek from Ngegang to Keldang via the Ganja la Pass (5,130m)

  • Trekking time: 6 hours

Day 10: Keldang - Dukpu

  • Trek from Keldang to Dukpu (4,050 m)

  • Trekking time: 5 hours

Day 11: Dukpu - Tarke Ghyang

  • Trek from Dukpu to Tarke Ghyang (2,750 m)

  • Trekking time: 6 hours

Day 12: Tarke Ghyang - Sermathang

  • Trek from Tarke Ghyang to Sermathang (2,620 m)

  • Trekking time: 5 hours

Day 13: Sermathang - Melamchi Pul

  • Trek from Sermathang to Melamchi Pul (850 m)

  • Trekking time: 4.5 hours

Day 14: Melamchi - Kathmandu

  • Drive from Melamchi to Kathmandu (1,350 m)

  • Transfer to the hotel

  • Overnight in the hotel

  • Driving time: 6 hours

Day 15: Kathmandu

  • Day at leisure. Options:

    • Take an extra trip

    • Explore the Thamel for a last day of shopping

  • Farewell dinner

  • Overnight at Hotel B/B

Day 16: Departure from Kathmandu

  • Transfer to the International Airport

  • End of program

Luis Silva was a great climbing guide and belayer! He taught me how to do moves that were difficult and encouraged me to try routes that were challenging for me! Because of his encouragement, I managed to complete these routes! I really enjoyed the climbs and completed 8 routes in the Sesimbra/Azoia area.
