Description

Throughout the French Alps there is an abundance of great peaks and massifs, including the Ecrins massif. This impressive massif consists of more than 100 different peaks. One such peak is the stunning La Meije (3,984m). And for 4 days, we will ski tour around the Ecrins massif, where you will get to enjoy many amazing descents. And we will also make our way to the summit of La Meije, before skiing back down.

Beginning in La Grave, we will make our way up by cable car to the alpine areas of the Ecrins massif. Up in the peaks, you will get to enjoy some truly breathtaking views of the surrounding Alps. You will also get to enjoy several thrilling descents, some as much as 2,000 metres long!

There is a long list of highlights you will get to see during this 4 day adventure. Some examples include the following.

Laume Dock (3,568m)

Breche du Rateau (3,335m)
Valley des Etancons
Serret du Savon
Meije Glacier
l’Homme Glacier
Tabuchet Glacier

We will also be staying in 3 different refuges during this trip. Each one is high up in the mountains. Hence giving you the full alpine experience both day and night. They are also very warm and comfortable. So you will get all the rest you need for the next day’s skiing!

Price details

The price does not include the ticket for the cable car at La Grave, which is 37 Euros per person, half-board accommodation in the 3 shelters, which will cost 140 Euros per person, transportation and accommodation in La Grave, and any extra drinks or other personal expenses.

Itinerary

Day 1: La Grave

After meeting in La Grave, we will take a cable car to the highest point of the station. After that, we will skin to the Laume Dock (3,568m). Afterwards, we will enjoy a descent to the La Selle shelter (2,673m), where we will spend the night.

Day 2: Valley des Etancons

Today we will trek up the Selle Glacier to the Breche du Rateau (3,335m), and enjoy a great descent along the couloirs to the Valley des Etancons and then go to the Promontoire refuge (3,082m), where we will spend the night.

Day 3: Meije Breccia (3,357m)

Today we will climb tot he Meije Breccia and then descend to the Meije Glacier to the l’Aigle refuge (3,450m), where we will spend the night.

Day 4: La Meije (3,984m)

On the final day of the trip, we will make our way to the summit of La Meije. Afterwards, we will descend either by the l’Homme Glacier or by the Tabuchet Glacier.

Participants should bring the following items with them: Backpack (25 - 30L), mountain ski equipment, safety equipment (skis, boots, skin, blades, canes), crampons, ice axe, helmet, technical clothing for ski mountaineering including t-shirt with thermal/synthetic tights, ski mountaineering pants, waterproof pants, waterproof jacket, buff for the neck, thin gloves, thick gloves, hat, cap, sunglasses, first aid kit, personal toiletries, sun cream, lip protection, photo camera. The shelters provide slippers, so you do not have to bring extra shoes. Sleeping bags are also not necessary to bring.

Mountain Guide

I love what I do and love to transmit my passion while guiding.

After touring the world fulfilling my dreams, I have put together all the knowledge gained and a strong background as a mountain guide to become one of the most versatile, dedicated and professional guides in the Pyrenees.

My resume has technical training in mountain medicine, snow studies, search and rescue complete training, meteorology and botany.

I spend the winters enjoying the unique snow conditions in the Aran Valley, as a ski touring and freeride Guide, and summers climbing the countless areas of excellent rock, either granite, limestone or conglomerate in the Pyrenees. I also spend a lot of time in Iceland during the summer guiding my friends and clients across these incredible landscapes.

While traveling the world, I make every effort to show the beauty of the landscapes, the quality of the rock and the best snow in the Pyrenees to everyone who wants to check them out.
