Description

The kingdom of Bhutan, a landlocked state surrounded by several other, larger countries is like a small jewel resting in the middle of an enormous sandy beach. And while that jewel is small, that does nothing to diminish its beauty and shine, which is a fitting description for Bhutan.

This magical kingdom is an amazing place to visit. And for 7 days, it is our goal that you have as much opportunity as possible to see and experience everything Bhutan has to offer, from its beautiful valleys to its incredible culture.

You will get to see and spend nights in 4 different places during this tour. They include Paro, where you will land and depart, the capital city of Thimphu, the village of Gantey and the town of Wangduephodrang. Each one of these places offers their own set of unique highlights that will create their own unique memories.

There really is something for everybody on this week long tour. For nature lovers, there is the gorgeous forests we will hike through, as well as a lot of varied wildlife you will doubtlessly be able to see. For history buffs, there are numerous monasteries and Dzongs you can see, each one with their own story to tell. Last, but certainly not least, for those who wish to admire the Himalayan mountains you will have countless opportunities to do so during this trip as well.

Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival in Bhutan

After you land in the Paro international airport one of our representatives will greet you and transfer you to your hotel, where you will spend the night. During the afternoon, you will have the chance to visit Paro Dzong, along with other wonderful sights in the area.

Day 2: Paro - Thimphu

We will hike to the Taktsang, otherwise known as the Tiger’s nest monastery, where you can enjoy some great views. Afterwards, we will drive to Thimphu, the capital of Bhutan, where we will spend the night.

Day 3: sight seeing day in Thimphu

You will get to enjoy the entire day exploring the city, seeing such as the King’s memorial Chorten, the radio tower, the Changgangkha monastery, the zoo, and several other wonderful highlights. We will spend the night in comfortable accommodations in the city.

Day 4: Thimphu

We will drive for approximately 3 hours to Wangduephodrang with a brief tea stop at Dochu La (3,100m), where you can enjoy some amazing views of the Himalayas. After lunch we will visit Punakha, as well as the Metshina village. We will spend the night in Wangduephodrang.

Day 5: Gantey

Today we will take a drive to Gantey. Afterwards, we will make our way through dense forest until we reach the Gantey village. At the village we will visit the Gantey Gompa. In the village you will be able to enjoy some spectacular views of the Black mountain range and the Phobjika valley. We will spend the night in Wangduephodrang.

Day 6: Wangduephodrang - Paro

Today we will drive from Wangduephodrang to Paro, with a lunch time stop in Thimphu. In Paro, you will have the chance to enjoy some local Bhutanese cuisine, and perhaps even a hot stone bath before setting for the night.

Day 7: Departure home

Climbing with guide Guillaume was absolutely a highlight of my 2-week Europe vacation. Originally, we were planning on climbing in the Calanques, but the park was closed due to wind and fire danger. Luis Silva was a great climbing guide and belayer! He taught me how to do moves that were difficult and encouraged me to try routes that were challenging for me! Because of his encouragement, I managed to complete these routes! I really enjoyed the climbs and completed 8 routes in the Sesimbra/Azoia area. The weather was perfect, no direct sun and cool enough to enjoy the climbs. Explore-Share made booking an outdoor climbing experience in Lisbon extremely easy.
