Description

Being able to explore a gorgeous place like Bhutan is an opportunity one should never pass up. And on this 14 day adventure, you will get the chance to see a great deal of this magnificent kingdom. And as a result of the extensive time this particular trip offers, at no point will you feel rushed, or feel regrets that you missed anything. Instead, you will get to take your time, so you can appreciate and take in the beauty of this magical place.

Bhutan presents an exquisite combination of natural beauty, vibrant culture and rich history. And on this trip, our intention is to help you not only see, but experience every aspect of that wonderful combination. Thus why the itinerary is structured in a way that you get to spend one day in the capital city of Thimphu, another day resting in the camp of Lingshi, so you can admire the Himalayas, and another day camping underneath the ruins of the Barshong Dzong.

There are so many highlights on this trip that listing them all would be impossible. However, a few examples include the route to Tremo La, which is a paved route that served as the main invasion route of the Tibetans centuries ago. There is also the Yeli la pass, where you can see the great Jumolhari mountain (7,326m). And there is the abundance of natural beauty along the river banks and in the forests that you will be exposed to throughout this journey.

Bhutan is an amazing place. And for 14 days, we want to show you as much of it as we possibly can. So if you would like to join us, all you have to do is send us a request.

And if you don’t have 2 weeks, but still want to explore Bhutan, we also offer this 7 day option as well.

Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival in Bhutan

After you land in the Paro international airport one of our representatives will greet you and transfer you to your hotel, where you will spend the night. During the afternoon, you will have the chance to visit Paro Dzong, along with other wonderful sights in the area.

Day 2: Acclimatization day in Paro

You will spend the day and night in Paro, getting used to the altitude, while also having the chance to explore the town of Paro, including the Taktsang monastery, which rests above the Paro valley.

Day 3: Paro - Shana (2,800m)

The trek will begin after a drive to the Drugyal Dzong. After that, we will hike along the Paro river, through rice paddies, forests and village houses. We will spend the night in a camp.

Day 4: Shana - Soi Thangthangkha (3,630m)

Today we will hike upward along the Paro river. While the hike today is easy, it will be long, but will provide great views of the route to Tremo La, which was used by Tibetan raiders centuries ago and the Jumolhari mountain (7,326m). We spend the night in a camp.

Day 5: Soi Thangthangkha - Jangothang (4,090m)

Today will not be a long hike, but we will ascend 450 metres in altitude. As a result you will get to enjoy some fantastic views of the Himalayas.  Our camp is located in one of the most beautiful camping areas in Bhutan, below a ruined fortress at the base of the Jumolhari mountain.

Day 6: Acclimatization day in Jangothang

Today you will have the option of 4 different day hikes you can enjoy. They include a 3 to 4 hour hike up to a ridge that will give you a great view of Jichu Drake, a hike up to the head of the valley so you can see the Jumolhari mountain more clearly, a trek up to the main valley toward Jichu Drake, or a hike to Tsophu for fishing. Or, you can spend the day relaxing in camp, where we will spend the night.

Day 7: Jangothang - Lingshi (4,010m)

We will hike over the Nyile La pass (4,890) where you will get to enjoy some amazing views of the Lingshi Dzong, glaciers, and the Tserim Gang mountain. We will sleep in the camp in Lingshi for the night.

Day 8: Rest day in Lingshi

Day 9: Lingshi - Shodu (4,110m)

We will ascend to the Yeli La pass (4,820m) where you will get to see several amazing peaks, before descending down to Shodu, where we will sleep in the camp for the night.

Day 10: Shodu - Barshong (3,680m)

We will cross the Thimphu river several times during today’s hike before ascending to the ruins of the Barshong Dzong. Our camp for the night is just beneath the ruins.

Day 11: Barshong - Dolam Kencho (3,430m)

We will hike down through a beautiful forest before taking a steep descent to the Thimphu river before ascending again to a meadow where we will stay in a camp for the night.

Day 12: Dolam Kencho - Thimphu

We will trek through a forest up to a pass at an altitude of 3,510 metres, allowing you to enjoy some more great views before we descend to the town of Dodina, where we will take a transport to a hotel in Thimphu.

Day 13: Thimphu - Paro

You will get to enjoy the day exploring the city, seeing such as the King’s memorial Chorten, the radio tower, the Changgangkha monastery, the zoo, and several other wonderful highlights, before we catch a transport to Paro, where you will spend the night.

Climbing with guide Guillaume was absolutely a highlight of my 2-week Europe vacation. Originally, we were planning on climbing in the Calanques, but the park was closed due to wind and fire danger. Guillaume chose another amazing location (Pic de Bretagne) based on my climbing abilities and preferences and kindly offered train station pick-up and hotel drop off, which I appreciated very much. The multi-pitch route we did was not only fun but also the right amount of challenge, which I thoroughly enjoyed. The communication from the team (Gauthier) was prompt and clear—highly recommend!

Luis Silva was a great climbing guide and belayer! He taught me how to do moves that were difficult and encouraged me to try routes that were challenging for me! Because of his encouragement, I managed to complete these routes! I really enjoyed the climbs and completed 8 routes in the Sesimbra/Azoia area. The weather was perfect, no direct sun and cool enough to enjoy the climbs. Explore-Share made booking an outdoor climbing experience in Lisbon extremely easy. Luis, our guide, was fantastic, and the platform’s organization was flawless.

Patrick was a great guide. He took us on an intermediate Via Ferrata at Passo Sella. Renato was quick to respond with any outreach on the Explore-Share platform. The booking process was straightforward, and once Patrick was confirmed, all went well. It was a wonderful experience, and I’d highly recommend the platform.
