Description

If you are looking to acquire a solid base for your mountaineering adventures, I have the perfect plan for you. Come join me on this ice climbing training, for 1 or more days, in the Theodulglacier in Zermatt.

This programme in the canton of Valais offers a varied and versatile training, a great way to take your glacier skills to the next level, learning how to move safely on ice and snow.

We will go over some theory but most important, I will put a lot of attention on the practice. My main goal is that you put your glacier mountaineering skills and techniques in use. During this training we will go over the following topics:

  • Walking and climbing with crampons

  • Rope up on glaciers

  • Anchors in ice and snow

  • Ice axe techniques

  • Belaying techniques

  • Most important knots

  • Behaviour on glaciers

  • Crevasse rescue

  • Abseiling with crampons

The Theodulglacier offers excellent conditions for a great training and can be easily reached from Zermatt. We will be staying in a hut, just 30 minutes walk from the glacier.

Climbing with guide Guillaume was absolutely a highlight of my 2-week Europe vacation. Originally, we were planning on climbing in the Calanques, but the park was closed due to wind and fire danger. Luis Silva was a great climbing guide and belayer! He taught me how to do moves that were difficult and encouraged me to try routes that were challenging for me! Because of his encouragement, I managed to complete these routes! I really enjoyed the climbs and completed 8 routes in the Sesimbra/Azoia area.
