The Huayhuash Range is located in the Andes of Peru and it has around 20 peaks. In addition, it’s the second highest mountain range in the world and famous for its beautiful trekking spots.
I propose a 11-days program in which we’ll explore some of the greatest peaks of Huayhuash Range with an altitude over 4000 meters. We’ll also enjoy its spectacular lagoons which offers incredible landscapes.
And the final challenge will be the ascent of Diablo Mudo, a 5350 m peak. From it’s summit we will enjoy an astonishing view of the whole range.
DAY 1: Meeting at Huaraz, from where we start our trip. We’ll appreciate a panoramic view of the city and the peaks surrounding. Acclimatization hike to Lake Churup 4450 m, and back to Huaraz, where we spend the night in a hotel.
DAY 2: Huaraz – Transfer Cordillera Huayhuash – Matacancha (4150 m)
DAY 3: Matacancha – Pass Cacananpunta (4750 m) – Lake Mitucocha
DAY 4: Lake Mitucocha (4300 m) – Pass Punta Carhuac (4650 m) – Lake Carhuacocha (4200 m)
DAY 5: Lake Carhuacocha – Pass Siula (4800 m) / Lake Quesillocha – Huayhuash (4450 m)
DAY 6: Huayhuash – Pass Portachuelo Huayhuash (5750 m) – Lake Viconga (4400 m) / Hot spring.
DAY 7: Lake Viconga – Pass Cuyoc (5050 m) – Huanacpatay (4350 m)
DAY 8: Huanacpatay – Trekking Huayllapa (3500 m) – Huatiac (4290 m)
DAY 9: Huatiac – Pass Punta Tapush (4750 m) – Gashgapampa (4500 m)
DAY 10: Gashgapampa – Summit Diablo Mudo (5350 m) – Lake Jahuacocha (4200 m)
DAY 11: Lastly, we ascend to Pampa de Llamac Pass. After this, we descend to Llamac town where we’ll take a bus to Huaraz.
As a final point, the Huayhuash circuit has a moderate difficulty, so participants should be in a good physical condition and have some prior experience in trekking.

What is the total distance of the Huayhuash mountain range?
The Huayhuash mountain range comprises 3 regions that cover its entire length, such as Ancash, Huanuco, and Lima. It has a distance of 120 km for the entire route.
What physical preparation should I have and how much experience is needed? Does this Huayhuash trek require technical knowledge?
In terms of experience, it is very important to have a basic knowledge, prior acclimatization, proper hydration, and suitable clothing for the cold or other conditions. During the trek in the Huayhuash mountain range, we will reach the highest pass at 5,000 meters.
What landmarks will we see in Huayhuash?
This is one of the most beautiful and impressive treks in the world, hosting spectacular mountains such as Yerupaja at 6634 m, the second-highest mountain in the Peruvian Andes, and Siula Grande, made famous by the movie "Touching the Void" and a book written by mountaineer Joe Simpson that recounts the true story of the expedition Simpson undertook with Simon on Siula Grande. Additionally, we can witness many crystal-clear lakes of different colors.
What equipment should I bring to Huayhuash?
You should bring: 30 - 40 L backpack. Waterproof jacket and pants (Gore-Tex or similar). Fleece clothing (Polartec or similar). Thermal clothing (base layer). Short-sleeve and long-sleeve shirts. Trekking shoes. Sufficient batteries (there is no power to charge devices on the way). Flip-flops (for hot springs). Flashlight. Towel. Hat and gloves for the cold. Sun hat. Sunscreen. Sunglasses. Camera. Water bottle (Nalgene). Personal toiletry bag. Trekking poles. Sleeping bag. Sleeping mats.
How many days/options are there in this Huayhuash trekking program?
We have several options depending on each client's availability. Normally, the classic departures we offer are 10 and 8 days. Within these, there are options that can be done in 15 to 12 days, which are more comprehensive programs that allow you to visit less frequented places.

I was born and raised in the hamlet of Yarush in 1987, at the foot of the Cordillera Blanca. From very young age i was born my passion for the mountains. In 2003 I started as enthusiast to climbing in rock next to my brother Eloy. In 2009 i obtained the title as ''official guide of high mountain'', i also ranks first in his class.
I enjoys doing sports climbing and opening new avenues in the cordillera Blanca, and in other countries. My wide experience has meant that he has climbed most of the mountains in cordillera blanca.

Climbing with guide Guillaume was absolutely a highlight of my 2-week Europe vacation. Originally, we were planning on climbing in the Calanques, but the park was closed due to wind and fire danger.
