Description

Japan: A country of traditions with few ski touring trips. I invite you to discover the central island by crossing the Japanese Alps till Mount Fuji.

This is a fantastic opportunity to discover these mountains going from Honshu to Honshu. This ski touring will take between 9 and 11 days immersed in the heart of the mountains. We will sleep in unique hostels but also in unguarded refuges. And finally, we will ski the Mount Fuji.

“Probably the most amazing ski touring trip I’ve organised in the last ten years”

The specifics of the trip:

  • An exploration route in an uncrowded area with many skiable mountains;

  • Surely one of the most fantastic raids that can exist. Discover the culture at the heart of the mountains;

  • An extraordinary accommodation. Comfort and conviviality in the Honshu and rusticity in the small huts.

  • We supervise personally all our trips and of course we do our best to minimize the hazards on site.

  • Every year I offer several ski touring trips along quiet mountains. I am not a travel agency but a mountain guide motivated by coaching with interesting objectives.

I propose to you the following program.

Day 1 and Day 2:  Paris – Tokyo – Toyama
Regular flight to Tokyo and then a short flight to Toyama. First night in the japanese culture and first discovery of the fineness of japanese gastronomy.

Day 3: Mt Oyama (3003 m)
An amazing day awaits us. We will take the train until a small ski lift that will take us on a plateau where a bus is going to be waiting for us at Mt. Oyama (3003 m). Then a beautiful descent takes us to a small hut with hot springs.

Day 4:  Mt Oyamadani and Mt Tambodaira
A very nice round trip from the small Honshu. We will use this first day at the Japanese Alps to make adjustments of the equipment before leaving on the trip. The summits are many and they are around the hut, and nothing but our desire to dive into a hot spring will stop us from skiing!!

Day 5: Traverse to the Goshikigahara refuge
First day ski touring. We will cross the Mt Shishidake (2741 m).

Day 6: Traverse to the Tarobeidaira refuge
Long day on the peaks where we will pass through the Mont Yakushidake (2926 m).

Day 7: Traverse to the Sugoroku refuge
Another great day in which we’ll go through the Mt Kurobegorodake (2839 m).

Day 8: Traverse to the Yarigatake refuge
Again a beautiful summit: the **Mont Yarigatake (**3180 m). A sacred peak for Japanese people.

Day 9: Traverse to the Hotakadake refuge
Ascent of the third highest mountain in Japan: the Mount Okuhotaka (3190 m).

Day 10: Ski touring in the mountains of Kamikochi
We will take a day to traverse to the Kitahotaka refuge. On the passage we can ski the Mount Obamadake (3101m), but it is optional.

Day 11: Transfer to the YamanaKako village at the foot of Mt Fuji
On the road we take the opportunity to visit the famous Matsumoto castle and its museum.

Day 13: Ascent to the Mount Fuji
Long traverse of the fabulous Mount Fuji summit from the south to the east side. We will ski in the crater.

Day 14: Buffer day to the Mt Fuji
In case we can do it, we will have the opportunity to visit and go skiing at the Hokendake.

Day 15: Flight back to France

The route above can be modified for safety reasons or unforeseen events. Of course it can be adapted to the level of the participants. In this case, we will do everything to offer you the best solution by adapting the original route.

Mountain Guide

I have been a mountain guide since I was 25 years old. My passion for discovering the mountains of the world has led me to the four corners of the earth. Currently, I am also an instructor at the National School of Skiing and Mountaineering (ENSA).

Each year, I organize different trips. I'm in charge of each trip's organization and I'm sometimes also the guide who leads the group. It could either be me or one of my 4 guide friends, who I have been working with for years.

I have been organizing trips around the world for the past 26 years: Alaska, Antractica, Nepal, Mongolia...Over the years, I have organized trips in more than 30 countries.

In recent years I have had the opportunity to discover:
- Ski traverse in Greenland
- Ski touring in Iran, Lebanon, Mongolia, Argentina, Canada
- Climbing in the Yukon at the Lotus Flower, Jordan, Oman
- The high summits of Sichuan, Kula Kangri in Tibet, Langtang Ri in Nepal

I am currently based in Chamonix and the other 3 guides who work with me live nearby as well. If you are interested in traveling far away or discovering the Mont Blanc massif and other places in the Alps, for climbing, ski touring or ice climbing, please contact me. It will be a pleasure for me to organise a trip that meets your expectations.

Climbing with guide Guillaume was absolutely a highlight of my 2-week Europe vacation. Originally, we were planning on climbing in the Calanques, but the park was closed due to wind and fire danger. Guillaume chose another amazing location (Pic de Bretagne) based on my climbing abilities and preferences and kindly offered train station pick-up and hotel drop off, which I appreciated very much. The multi-pitch route we did was not only fun but also the right amount of challenge, which I thoroughly enjoyed. The communication from the team (Gauthier) was prompt and clear—highly recommend!

Luis Silva was a great climbing guide and belayer! He taught me how to do moves that were difficult and encouraged me to try routes that were challenging for me! Because of his encouragement, I managed to complete these routes! I really enjoyed the climbs and completed 8 routes in the Sesimbra/Azoia area. The weather was perfect, no direct sun and cool enough to enjoy the climbs. Explore-Share made booking an outdoor climbing experience in Lisbon extremely easy. Luis, our guide, was fantastic, and the platform’s organization was flawless.

Patrick was a great guide. He took us on an intermediate Via Ferrata at Passo Sella. Renato was quick to respond with any outreach on the Explore-Share platform. The booking process was straightforward, and once Patrick was confirmed, all went well. It was a wonderful experience, and I’d highly recommend the platform.
