Hiking in Mount Miyanoura, Yakushima | undefined

Enjoy some beautiful landscapes in this intense 2-day hiking trip to Mount Miyanoura, the highest mountain in Yakushima, Japan.

2 Days

Apr, Jun - Oct

Description

I invite you to a hiking trip in the Japanese island of Yakushima, that will take you to the summit of Mount Miyanoura (1936 m).

After an intense vertical journey through different kinds of forests, we’ll reach the top of this peak, which is the highest mountain in Yakushima.

Once there, we’ll enjoy some beautiful panoramic views of this subtropical region, which is actually a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

On the way back, we’ll visit Jomon Sugi, the largest and oldest cedar tree in this forest.

During this trip, we’ll be walking between 8 and 10 hours a day. I recommend it for those who have good health and a strong body, as well as physical and mental self-confidence.

By the way, you should consider we’ll be staying in an wild area.

For further information, you can find the complete program for this trip below.

Please contact me if you want to be a part of this hiking trip to Mount Miyanoura. I would really like to take you to the deep ancient forest and have an unforgettable camping experience.

I am an JMGA hiking guide living in Yakushima for eight years. I’ll be glad to show you this beautiful place.

Then, we’ll start from Yodogawa entrance and climb over Mt. Miyanoura (1,936 m), the highest peak of Yakushima.

If we are lucky, a 360° panoramic view from the top of the island will welcome us!

Then, we’ll spend a night in Shin-Takatsuka hut (1,550 m). You can sleep in a tent outside of the hut if the weather is good.

Day 2: Let's meet Jyomon-sugi !

We will descent towards Arakawa entrance (exit).

On the way, we will see the most famous elder cedar tree, Jomon-sugi. And at the biggest tree stump, we can step in and check how it is like to be inside the stump!

Mountain Guide

I am a JMGA hiking guide as well as National Certified Tour Guide, a nationally recognised qualification to guide foreigners in foreign language.
I was born and raised in Kanagawa prefecture until I travelled to the US where I attended community college and a university in Seattle, in Washington, to study American and English literatures. During my student years abroad, I went backpacking all over Europe, and have also stayed in a farm in France, as well as studied at a French university in Nantes as a part of a university exchange programme.

Fate took me to Yakushima during my bicycle journey from Tokyo to Kagoshima, where I was recommended to visit Yakushima and never left. Since then, I have been tour guiding and mountain guiding in the island that I love for 8 years.

My wish is for visitors to be able to see, feel and understand the beauty of Yakushima through the tours that I provide.
Nice and kind is what I will be to you guest, and would you please be so to Yakushima.

In case I am unavailable on the day, my mountain guide friend Junichi (http://www.explore-share.com/mountain-guide/junichi-aida/) may guide you.

Climbing with guide Guillaume was absolutely a highlight of my 2-week Europe vacation. Originally, we were planning on climbing in the Calanques, but the park was closed due to wind and fire danger. Guillaume chose another amazing location (Pic de Bretagne) based on my climbing abilities and preferences and kindly offered train station pick-up and hotel drop off, which I appreciated very much. The multi-pitch route we did was not only fun but also the right amount of challenge, which I thoroughly enjoyed. The communication from the team (Gauthier) was prompt and clear—highly recommend!

Luis Silva was a great climbing guide and belayer! He taught me how to do moves that were difficult and encouraged me to try routes that were challenging for me! Because of his encouragement, I managed to complete these routes! I really enjoyed the climbs and completed 8 routes in the Sesimbra/Azoia area. The weather was perfect, no direct sun and cool enough to enjoy the climbs. Explore-Share made booking an outdoor climbing experience in Lisbon extremely easy. Luis, our guide, was fantastic, and the platform’s organization was flawless.

Patrick was a great guide. He took us on an intermediate Via Ferrata at Passo Sella. Renato was quick to respond with any outreach on the Explore-Share platform. The booking process was straightforward, and once Patrick was confirmed, all went well. It was a wonderful experience, and I’d highly recommend the platform.
