Description

I am glad to invite you to a full day trek up to the Pliegue Tumbado Viewpoint, in Santa Cruz province.

During the hike you can discover one of the most uncrowded trails of this Patagonian region. It will be a 8-hour hike gaining a total altitude of 900 meters. Once we reach the top of the Pliegue Tumbado, you won’t believe where you are.

A 360° viewpoint surrounded by a stunning scenery. The Fitz Roy, Torre and Toro valleys. Besides that, the Patagonian steppe and the huge Viedma Lake .

Finally, the last section of the itinerary will be done by a high mountain landscape. Here you will find and explore several millenary marine fossils.

ITINERARY to Pliegue tumbado VIEWPOINT

Our trail head will be the Laguna Toro. We’ll walk to there from the Visitor Center National Park. After 1 hiking hour we’ll reach the first viewpoint. It includes Mounts Fitz Roy, Torre and Huemul. We’ll stop here for a short rest.

Then, we’ll cross over the “Pampa de las Carretas”. Here we must take a detour in direction to the Pliegue Tumbado Viewpoint. Here we’ll be surrounded by a vast vegetation typical of that height (around 1.000 meters above sea level). Some ancient fossils will be found here, but only for watching!

Finally, we’ll be at the top of The Pliegue Tumbado enjoying a unique panoramic view of the Cerro Torre and Mount Fitz Roy. Besides those famous valleys, you will also admire a not-so-common view of the Cerro Solo, Cerro Huemul and the immensity of the Viedma Lake. By the afternoon we’ll hike back to El Chaltén by the same route.

If you are looking for a non beaten track and a unique connection with nature, this is the perfect trek. Contact me now for further information about next departures and booking process. You won’t regret!

Mountain Guide

Certified UIAGM-IFMGA Mountain Guide from Argentina.

I live in El Chaltén since 1998. I'm originally from Bariloche and I started with mountain activities when I was 15 years old. I've done climbing and ascents in many mountains of Patagonia, Perú, Bolivia, United States and Europe; such as Fitz Roy, Cerro Torre, Alpamayo, El Capitán, Mont Blanc and Aconcagua among others. I'm also a Ski Instructor and I am passionate for backcountry ski.

I speak fluent English, Italian and French and have been leading trips and expeditions for more than 20 years. I work together with a group of guides, so if I'm not available for the trip you request, one of my colleagues will guide you!
