Heliski and ski touring Pyrenees crossing

3-day ski touring and heliski Pyrenees crossing, with Miriam, AEGM certified mountain guide. Starting from Val d’Aran, discover the Pyrenees skiing!

Description

In this 3-day ski touring and heliski Pyrenees crossing I propose to start with a helicopter flight from Val d’Aran. From there we will start a crossing that will take us to the French side of the range.

I like this program because you can save some energy and altitude difference with the helicopter. It's a great opportunity to reach Aneto and the Natural Park of Posets-Maladeta. So we start from Catalunya and do the crossing to France through Puerto Viejo pass. We will be sleeping in refuges and the very charming and beautiful mountain hotel ‘Hospital de Benasque’.

We will start in Val d'Aran, and ride in a helicopter to enjoy great runs, and sleep at La Renclusa refuge. The second day includes the ascent of Aneto (3404m), the highest peak of the Pyrenees. Then we spend the night at Hospital de Benasque. Finally we will go up to Puerto Viejo, and ski down to Val d'Aran.

If you prefer, we have the option of doing this itinerary without the helicopter flight, starting from Benasque.

A moderate level and previous experience in ski touring is desirable to enjoy this trip. The best season to enjoy this program is spring.

Get in touch with me if you are interested in doing this heliski Pyrenees crossing, discovering beautiful valleys and going up Mount Aneto! I would love to be your guide in this region I love. Another great ski touring program in the Pyrenees is in Mt Perdido and Ordesa park, check it out!

Itinerary

Day 1: La Renclusa refuge

Starting from Val d’Aran, in the north face of the Pyrenees and easy to access from Toulouse, we take a helicopter flight up to 2300 metres. From there we do several runs and then skin up to La Renclusa refuge.

Day 2: Aneto

We go up Aneto (3404m). From there ski down all the way to Hospital de Benasque, a former refuge that has been refurbished as a hotel. It’s located in the middle of the mountains, in the entrance of Posets-Maladeta Natural Park. The total altitude difference is of approximately 1800 metres.

Day 3: Puerto Viejo

We go up to Puerto Viejo, a former frontier pass connecting Spain and France, and from there ski down to Val d’Aran. This takes around 6 hours.

Mountain Guide

The story begins when your parents put you the skis when you are still wearing diapers, when you discover every summer the lakes of the Pyrenees, and after that you start going for the summits. When climbing and the feeling of freedom that comes with it gets you hooked, and there's nothing you can do about it.

It continues when you choose your career following the name: Technical Mountain Engineering, in Lleida, close to the Pyrenees, and you start working as a ski instructor during weekends. And year after year, trip after trip, run after run, you start getting together with young mountaineers, and closer to the formation as a mountain guide.

Expeditions, trips, some award and the constant formation and evolution are what built this long journey, which allows me to share the world that I love with others. And thanks to the works as a guide I can enjoy everything: the great moments that the mountain gave me, in the snow, rock or ice, and above all the moving feeling of realizing how small we are in the immensity of the summits.

Climbing with guide Guillaume was absolutely a highlight of my 2-week Europe vacation. Originally, we were planning on climbing in the Calanques, but the park was closed due to wind and fire danger. Guillaume chose another amazing location (Pic de Bretagne) based on my climbing abilities and preferences and kindly offered train station pick-up and hotel drop off, which I appreciated very much. The multi-pitch route we did was not only fun but also the right amount of challenge, which I thoroughly enjoyed. The communication from the team (Gauthier) was prompt and clear—highly recommend!

Luis Silva was a great climbing guide and belayer! He taught me how to do moves that were difficult and encouraged me to try routes that were challenging for me! Because of his encouragement, I managed to complete these routes! I really enjoyed the climbs and completed 8 routes in the Sesimbra/Azoia area. The weather was perfect, no direct sun and cool enough to enjoy the climbs. Explore-Share made booking an outdoor climbing experience in Lisbon extremely easy. Luis, our guide, was fantastic, and the platform’s organization was flawless.

Patrick was a great guide. He took us on an intermediate Via Ferrata at Passo Sella. Renato was quick to respond with any outreach on the Explore-Share platform. The booking process was straightforward, and once Patrick was confirmed, all went well. It was a wonderful experience, and I’d highly recommend the platform.
