Description

Japanese snow is just right, abundant, fluffy, a dream. Just outside of Nagano lies Hakuba, a lovely village in the Japanese Alps. And also, one of the best spots for ski lovers like yourself looking for great alpine runs and tree skiing landscapes. On this one week Hakuba ski touring and backcountry skiing trip I will show you some of its best slopes!

We will begin our tour in Hakuba proper. It takes around 3-5 hours to get there from Tokyo airport and is quite straightforward. Once there, we will be staying at the Hakuba Powder Lodge. This will be a great spot from which to kick start every morning before hitting the snowy peaks. We will begin by skiing in the resorts. Then, as we advance we will look for some backcountry opportunities. Weather, fortunately is usually very favorable in this respect. Also, you might catch sight of some snow monkeys when we are out skirting the trees. Additionally, you will get to eat some great sushi and experience the beautiful Japanese culture.

In terms of difficulty, Hakuba offers different terrains that are suitable for different levels. Consequently, we can adapt the tour to suit your needs and preferences. It is of course important that you have a good fitness level because we will be out skiing all day for many days in a row. Of course, I will be there to help and guide you.

Are you ready for a taste of Japanese snow? Then book your place now and join me on this amazing ski week in Hakuba!

Mountain Guide

I was born in a small ski village in the Swiss Alps and was immersed in the climbing culture through my parents at a young age. After three years competing in the ice climbing world cup and after graduating from law school, I decided to pursue climbing professionally, both as a guide and as a professional alpinist.

My passion for everything relating to the mountains - alpine climbing, ice climbing, skiing, skimo races, rock climbing, etc. - has taken me all over the world, doing first ascents and repeated beautiful climbs in places such as Canada, Ethiopia, Norway, Jordan, Iceland, Antarctica, Morocco, Thailand and more. But some of my greatest climbs have been here in the Alps, climbing the north faces of the Eiger, Matterhorn, Grandes Jorasses and Drus, or Beyond Good and Evil in Chamonix. What I love most though is climbing big frozen waterfalls.

Through guiding, I get to share my love for the mountains, as well as my skills and knowledge with guests around the world, in the alpine, on ice, rock or on skis. What I love about my job in the Alps is that I get to speak so many different languages - English, French, Italian, German - as the mountains sit on or close to borders.

The mountains are my passion and have been my way of life for most of my life. It is a community I am proud to belong to. And on this journey, I have met my husband and fellow mountain guide, Adam. We love working together. We live in Finhaut - a small Swiss village right the French-Swiss border between Chamonix and Verbier - with our lovely daughter Olivia. We have access to beautiful climbing and ski touring right from our doorstep and are close to world class terrain in France, Switzerland and Italy in a matter of minutes!

When I am not guiding, I play for myself in the mountains, work on translations, blog and love to rediscover the wonders of the world through the eyes of my daughter.

Climbing with guide Guillaume was absolutely a highlight of my 2-week Europe vacation. Originally, we were planning on climbing in the Calanques, but the park was closed due to wind and fire danger. Guillaume chose another amazing location (Pic de Bretagne) based on my climbing abilities and preferences and kindly offered train station pick-up and hotel drop off, which I appreciated very much. The multi-pitch route we did was not only fun but also the right amount of challenge, which I thoroughly enjoyed. The communication from the team (Gauthier) was prompt and clear—highly recommend!

Luis Silva was a great climbing guide and belayer! He taught me how to do moves that were difficult and encouraged me to try routes that were challenging for me! Because of his encouragement, I managed to complete these routes! I really enjoyed the climbs and completed 8 routes in the Sesimbra/Azoia area. The weather was perfect, no direct sun and cool enough to enjoy the climbs. Explore-Share made booking an outdoor climbing experience in Lisbon extremely easy. Luis, our guide, was fantastic, and the platform’s organization was flawless.

Patrick was a great guide. He took us on an intermediate Via Ferrata at Passo Sella. Renato was quick to respond with any outreach on the Explore-Share platform. The booking process was straightforward, and once Patrick was confirmed, all went well. It was a wonderful experience, and I’d highly recommend the platform.
