Description

Join us on an unforgettable ski-touring week at Uløya and neighboring islands in the company of an IFMGA-certified guide. Enjoy the most amazing powder runs and stay at our comfy, warm and fully equipped apartments at the Lyngen Outdoor Center.

Located in the northern end of the famous Lyngen Fjord in northern Norway, the remote island of Uløya is a truly extraordinary place. Unique landscapes of stunning peaks and steep walls falling straight into the sea, and lots of powder snow, make for one of the most spectacular ski touring destinations in the world.  Uløya is the only place on Earth where you can find 1000m-long slopes inclined at almost any angle, and falling right into the dark blue waters of the fjords. This is the Arctic, where you can really feel like you are on the edge of the world!

We have perfect powder in Uloya almost all the time, as the air is very dry and snow hardly gets compressed. In late spring,  the snow cover is just perfect and creates an ideal surface to slide on. The snow that has melted during the day freezes again at night, creating a unique sliding layer that is several centimeters thick.

On this program, every day, our ski tours start right at the doorstep of our house. Additionally, we will have a modern and safe boat (8.5 m or 7.2 m, 150 HP aluminum) at our disposal. Some of the options that you can enjoy on this adventure include:

  • Going to the summit of Blåtinden (1142m) and enjoying a 15km ski tour day then returning for a cold beer and a relaxing hot sauna.

  • The famous Grand Traverse of Uløya, from Uløybukt to Havnes- a 20 km of ridge ski route taking in Kjelvagtinden (1104m), Uløytinden (1114m) and Blåtinden (1142m).

  • Boat tours to explore neighboring islands or the Lyngen Penninsula to enjoy a tour of the impressive Lyngen Alps.

  • Rock or ice climbing on virgin couloirs, icefalls and rock walls.

  • Sea fishing. Our skipper can take you to the fishing grounds where you can catch your dinner.

  • Kid-friendly activities: fishing, snow-hole building, games using Arvas (searching and digging out a person, etc) and easy ski tours.

We offer stays for groups of 3 to 6 people in really comfortable apartments, with breathtaking views. Our guides will help you get the most out of this experience, taking you to the best ski touring routes and to the most amazing hikes and climbs and will ensure your safety at all times. They are all experienced IFMGA- certified, with excellent local knowledge. Additionally, our chief-of-staff and skipper will not only drive your boat but also cook delicious fish soup for you!

Please note you will find the best weather and conditions for skiing from March until the end of April. The end of February differs from year to year. Although days are considerably shorter, you can see the beautiful Northern Lights.

So if you wish to discover this ski touring paradise in Norway, just send us a request! Book your trip and join us on this trip of a lifetime!

We recommend you to watch this amazing 1 1/2 min video which has been made by a group of Belgians who came to ski with us in April.

Mountain Guide

The Lyngen Outdoor Center is located in Norway´s far north, in the eastern part of the island of Uløya.

Located just 500km beyond the Arctic circle and surrounded by stunning fjords (including the famous Lyngen fjord), Uløya is a dream setting to practice a wide range of activities (ski touring, climbing and hiking are an every day occurrence here).

The Lyngen Outdoor Center team is made up of IFMGA-certified guides and outdoor lovers only. We are skiers, climbers and anglers. Our expeditions have taken us all around the world, including Himalaya, the Tian Shan Range, Patagonia, Madagscar and Mali, to name a few. We created this place to share our knowledge and passion with you.

You won't have trouble finding us: the only route on this part of the island leads straight to us. You can take a ferry to get here or we can pick you up in our "water taxi".

Our very comfortable apartments are located just 50 meters away from the water line. They offer everything you'll need for a skiing or fishing trip with your friends, including a drying room. Our boats are some of the most modern in all of the Lyngen area and a large sized pier is located just 50m away from your accommodation.

Come explore the unbelievable Arctic. We'll be happy to welcome you!

Climbing with guide Guillaume was absolutely a highlight of my 2-week Europe vacation. Originally, we were planning on climbing in the Calanques, but the park was closed due to wind and fire danger. Guillaume chose another amazing location (Pic de Bretagne) based on my climbing abilities and preferences and kindly offered train station pick-up and hotel drop off, which I appreciated very much. The multi-pitch route we did was not only fun but also the right amount of challenge, which I thoroughly enjoyed. The communication from the team (Gauthier) was prompt and clear—highly recommend!

Luis Silva was a great climbing guide and belayer! He taught me how to do moves that were difficult and encouraged me to try routes that were challenging for me! Because of his encouragement, I managed to complete these routes! I really enjoyed the climbs and completed 8 routes in the Sesimbra/Azoia area. The weather was perfect, no direct sun and cool enough to enjoy the climbs. Explore-Share made booking an outdoor climbing experience in Lisbon extremely easy. Luis, our guide, was fantastic, and the platform’s organization was flawless.

We had Léo as a guide for our day climb in Fonty. We were blessed with a knowledgeable, warm, and instructive guide. Communication with Léo and Ivan was smooth and swift. Explore-Share was excellent in arranging everything for our day climb. The communication was quick, and the platform was easy to use, making our adventure stress-free.

Patrick was a great guide. He took us on an intermediate Via Ferrata at Passo Sella. Renato was quick to respond with any outreach on the Explore-Share platform. The booking process was straightforward, and once Patrick was confirmed, all went well. It was a wonderful experience, and I’d highly recommend the platform.
