Description

Reaching the summit of a 4-thousander is a goal for many mountaineers. I propose you to join me and summit Gran Paradiso (4061m), in the heart of the Alps.

The Gran Paradiso summit is within the reach of good hikers with some prior experience in the use of crampons. Being in Italy will allow you to enjoy the Italian lifestyle. Indeed, the warm welcome and good meals are one of the highlights of this program!

In addition to Gran Paradiso, we will summit Tresenta, near the Vittorio Emanuele refuge.

This short mountaineering excursion is totally doable in one weekend. But it’s also a chance of prolonging your stay in the Alps.

Besides, getting there is very easy as I can pick you up at the TGV station in Oulx (although you can also get to Pont Valsavarenche on your own).

I particularly like this program for the following reasons:
– the ascent crosses a glacial environment
– the incredible panorama of the Alpine massif with a particularly mild weather
– the chance to travel light and get great food at the refuges

This is course is accessible for eager beginners! No specific difficulty. However, you are advised to have some experience walking with crampons and to be used to walking off-trail in the mountains carrying your backpack with some gear in it. You should be able to cope with walking at altitudes above 3000 minimum.

You should be used to outdoor sports and do endurance training on a regular basis (cycling, hiking, cross country skiing, swimming). If this is not the case you should run at least 3 times a week (10 km/hr) two to three months before this alpine course. Expect to be on the go for 6 to 8 hours per day with approx 900 to 1300 m ascent/descent.

Tempted to get to the top of famous Gran Paradiso? Then please get in touch with me indicating your preferred dates! If you are a group let me know as I can adapt the program to suit your needs. Of course Gran Paradiso is also great in the winter, join me for some ski touring there!

From the refuge we have excellent views over 3 emblematic peaks: Becca di Montclair (3544m), Ciarforon (3648m) and Tresenta (3609m). We will go for the Tresenta. It is a good acclimatization in which we will get used to the rope and crampons. From the summit, we will get to see our next day’s goal. Then, we will descend to the refuge to share a meal.

We leave when it’s still dark. We go up the beautiful Laveciau glacier to reach, at 3600 meters, the mountaineers coming from the Chabod refuge.

Climbing with guide Guillaume was absolutely a highlight of my 2-week Europe vacation. Originally, we were planning on climbing in the Calanques, but the park was closed due to wind and fire danger. Guillaume chose another amazing location (Pic de Bretagne) based on my climbing abilities and preferences and kindly offered train station pick-up and hotel drop off, which I appreciated very much. The multi-pitch route we did was not only fun but also the right amount of challenge, which I thoroughly enjoyed. The communication from the team (Gauthier) was prompt and clear—highly recommend!

Luis Silva was a great climbing guide and belayer! He taught me how to do moves that were difficult and encouraged me to try routes that were challenging for me! Because of his encouragement, I managed to complete these routes! I really enjoyed the climbs and completed 8 routes in the Sesimbra/Azoia area. The weather was perfect, no direct sun and cool enough to enjoy the climbs. Explore-Share made booking an outdoor climbing experience in Lisbon extremely easy. Luis, our guide, was fantastic, and the platform’s organization was flawless.

Patrick was a great guide. He took us on an intermediate Via Ferrata at Passo Sella. Renato was quick to respond with any outreach on the Explore-Share platform. The booking process was straightforward, and once Patrick was confirmed, all went well. It was a wonderful experience, and I’d highly recommend the platform.
