I am happy to invite you to a 4-day ski touring trip from west to east and back in the Giant Mountains.

I have planned this program with the intention of making you live a different tour on skis, off the beaten tracks, in the Giant Mountains. We will be 4 days almost alone in the wilderness!

The Giant Mountains lie on the border between Poland and Czech Republic. They are the highest mountain range in the country. During winter time it is a perfect place for the practice of many snow activities, especially ski-resort skiing, cross country skiing and ski touring.

The top 3 reasons why I like taking my clients and friends ski touring there are:

I know the place perfectly and I've a good relationship with local owners of mountain lodges;
You will ski among the best trails and freeride spots;
The region has amazing weather and snow conditions during the winter, sometimes even better than in the Alps!

Regarding the accommodation, we'll have dinner and rest in a different mountain hut every night. All of them are very well equipped, with excellent services and food. They usually serve good beers which is very important after an intense skiing day!

I can take with me a maximum of 6 people. It is not mandatory to be an expert skier, but it will be a plus if you have some prior experience and a good fitness level. Anyway, the itinerary can be adapted to your level. I can also add more days to this trip or shorten it. I'm sharing with you a sample day-by-day program at the bottom of this description.

Itinerary

Day 1: Starting Point - Martinova Bouda Hut

Our starting point will be in Dolní Mísečky from where we’ll move to Kotelní Jámy and then to the Labská hütte, a hut that has its own brewery!

Then we’ll continue to Sněžné Jámy where we can do some ice climbing. Finally we’ll reach the Martinova Bouda. It is a mountain hut (with sauna!) where we will spend the first night.

Day 2: Bouda Pod Sněžkou

We’ll set off the hut in the search of some peaks where to ski down. We’ll dinner and rest at Bouda pod Sněžkou mountain hut (with sauna as well!)

Day 3: Obří důl - Sněžka - Děčínská hutte

From the hut we will move to Obří důl and probably we ski down to the Poland side of the Giant Mountains. Then we continue to the Sněžka, the highest peak of Czech Republic with 1602 meters of altitude. Finally, we’ll ski down to the Děčínská hutte, where we’ll stay for the night. Here we can taste their own production of cheese, yogurt and cakes.

Day 4: Ending Point and celebration

Last day. We’ll ski down from the hut to Obří důl again and then to Špindlerův mlýn. After passing by Medvědín we’ll be at the parking lot, where we can go back the starting point by car. Final dinner in the restaurant “LA BOTTA” to celebrate such an amazing tour!

Meeting point

The meeting point can be in Turnov, Mladá Boleslav (Škoda), Vrchlabí, Jilemnice, Trutnov, Pec pod Sněžkou or Prague. Prague has good flight connections.

Mountain Guide

My name is Vojtěch but everybody calls me Watt. I started climbing when I was 16. In 2009 I got certified as a mountain guide.
My favourite activities include climbing, MTB, skiing and trail running.
These are some of my favourite crags: Prachovské skály, Bišík and Zbiroh (sandstone in The Bohemian Paradise) and Moravian Karst (limestone).
One of my best climbing achievements was in Val Qualido (Italy), also the north face of Malý Kežmarský štít, in the High Tatras (Slovakia), and many more!
As a side job, I am the editor in chief of an outdoor web, I write methodology articles for climbing magazines and climbing comics.
